Following potential 2012 draftees

Calm down, Chickenlittles. Stern loves drama. If the Warriors were slotted 8th it would suck for us because it'd be a set up for them to jump into the lottery. Classic positive/negative storytelling. For now the W's got a positive plot point while the Jazz got a negative one. Come lottery the W's get their negative plot point, and the Jazz get their positive one. It's basic storytelling structure. Stern doesn't even bother making things believable - he just loves the drama.

Someone will leapfrog the W's. Jazz will pick 8th. or 9th (I'm not sure of all the potential storylines of teams 8-14).

I like the way you think.

Heard a little tidbit re: the Jazz (waaaaay to preliminary to get into it .. but I'm trying to piece together some details from a sketchy conversation. I'll name 3 teams and would appreciate any opinions as to who (if any) has been the 'best'/most likely trade partner. I think I've narrowed things down to;

- Houston
- Suns
- Philly
.. with an outside chance of Mavs, but the pieces don't fit as well.

Burks & next year's GSW pick for Houston's pick (if Marshall is still there)

What I do know;

- Jazz are asking questions of players 'just barely outside the lottery' (they inquired about Tjones .. but he was far from the only one, as I was told).

What I think I know;

- Jazz must feel they have a potential trade partner with those teams I mentioned above.

Q Miller and T Jones are both projected just outside 14th... I'd definitely swap Burks & next year's GSW for one of them. Gives us a lock at SF and brings Hayward back to SG.

I wouldn't do that. I'll try to get more details, but I don't think my inner circle can get any Jazz-specific stuff that they're intending to keep close to the vest.

btw, spent a couple of the past weekends watching the EYBL in Minnesota and Virginia .. I would say that better than Shabazz, Noel, Parker .. or ANYONE in HS right now, is sophomore Andrew Wiggins. Kid is a freaking sophomore in HS and could play in the NBA right now. Best I've seen at the high school .. dare I say, ever.

Will 2013 be quite a decent class then? Better than 2011?

'13 will be good through the lottery but not deep. Wiggins, whom I was speaking of so highly, would be declaring after his freshman year in college .. putting him in the 2015 draft class. That's why he's so special, I think he'd go #1, as a sophomore out of HS.

I would take a guess it will be just draft pick something like the gsw pick and a second or 2. I don't think the jazz have much those teams would need.

Houston - but for some reason think players would be involved. They have the conundrum of dragic and Lowry to solve. They are pretty set at 2 with Martin and lee (he wants to come back). With parsons playing well and bullinger they are set at 3. I would consider taking Morris off their hands. They need a 4 but don't see the jazz filling that need. Unless there is a blockbuster, which isn't likely, this won't happen.

Suns - really need to be in full rebuild mode. I could see A trade here for multiple picks. They kind of need everything. There was a rumor of robin Lopez at one point could see him involved too. Jazz have a history here also.

Philly - is the most likely because KOC is associated with Philly closely. Philly is on the cusp of being a very good team. Not sure how another rookie solves their issues. I would guess this as my first option where we get phillys pick and they get gsw plus a second or 2. They were rumored to be looking to move Evan turner I am not sure where I stand with a burks for turner trade.

ALL day. Good post, btw.

One of the asset that could be useful is the trade exception we received from the Memo trade. Looking at all the lotto teams, seems like Detroit is a team we should target (they're owed $50m+ next year). Plus they also don't have a lock at the SG position.

I'd propose Burks + our trade exception for Ben Gordon (or Villanuava) + Detroit's 9th pick (if things stand).

Detroit gets rid of one of their bad contracts, and receive a SG with great potential to pair with Knight.

Utah gets either Lillard/Marshall as their PG of the future, but will have to take on a bad contract for 2 years (Gordon can play a 6th man role for us as well).

Thoughts?

That sounds to ME like the FO is about where most on this board is at. They would like to approach the draft positionally, and are looking at SFs and PGs (bSFPGa). Kendall Marshall and Lillard are on the radar. Giant 3s as well (KOC is obsessed with size for position if you listen to what he says and look at recent draftees). As far as SF-ish players go, I think it most sounds like Quincy Miller to me, going by your post. The Jones-es also kind of fit this, but I don't think anyone sees PaJamas falling out of the lottery.

Interesting stuff. I don't know why any of us trust you, but I do trust you.

Thanks, Numb. I can say that it certainly seems we're looking for a big SF more than a PG .. but I only have spotty info and am 'reaching' between the lines.

-Gordon's contract is too big to be absorbed by the Memo TPE.
-Villanueva then??? That's just gross and wrong. And I don't see the Jazz buying him out, and would probably be unable to flip him.
-The net negative of the above truths then has to be paired with the loss of Burks (who I still quite like, despite some reservations), and is some rookie really going to swing the pendulum so forcefully back in the other (net positive) direction?

It's not bad, but I don't think I would do it. We'd solve our 'PG of the future' problem (assuming Marshall/Lillard pans out), but we'd be left with a hole at the wing by moving Burks. I really like Burks...not sure why he's always mentioned in trade ideas lately. A few months ago people on here weren't even willing to involve him in a Rondo trade.

I'm convinced that we have enough trade assets that we wouldn't have to trade one of The Four in order to get a lottery pick in this draft. Trading Harris, Al, or the GS pick seems ideal to me.

- Jefferson for Courtney Lee and #14 after July 1st (somehow pieced together so the Jazz get who they want at that spot in the draft).

I really don't see it for the other teams.

I'll echo that KOC has a good relationship with Philly. KOC was their GM before coming to Utah and must be close with their ownership. It was Philly that traded us Fesenko and Kyle Korver.

As for players the Jazz would look at with a #15 pick--Lilliard, Q. Miller, Moultrie, Rivers, Teague and maybe even Terrence Ross or Tony Wroten depending on workouts.

I could see the Jazz being somewhat interested in Lou Williams, but he'll be a free agent. Not sure if the Jazz like J'rue Holliday or Evan Turner. Memo's TPE could come close to absorbing Igoudala's contract.

If I were the Jazz, I'd rather trade Harris than Jefferson.
