Hollinger on Jazz-Spurs Series

Utah: Utah just needs to win the next two by a combined 46 points and it's right back in this thing. The Jazz's pick-and-roll defense has been abused by San Antonio's guards, which isn't a big surprise if you look at the offensive and defensive rankings of the two sides. For Utah, the next step is to start thinking about A) how to do this much, much differently, and B) next season.

One solution is to start Alec Burks on the wing for an ineffective Josh Howard. Burks is the more capable offensive player, and while defense has been a problem in the first two games, the Jazz also have failed to score at a respectable rate.

Beyond that, it's Derrick Favors time. Here's an amazing stat: Favors has played 47 minutes in this series and is a plus-6. The other 49 minutes the Jazz are minus-52. Granted, garbage time influenced that stat a bit, but the guy is rapidly becoming an absolute beast on defense. The conclusion is to put Favors out there early and often -- perhaps even start him, with Paul Millsap at the 3 or coming off the bench.

It squeezes the vets, but Howard and DeMarre Carroll aren't part of the future and aren't helping the present much either. At this point, the Jazz have nothing to lose by going with the kids.

I don't know...Favors is too young and doesn't have the playoff experience Little Big Al has. Playing Favors over Jefferson really depletes the experience that the Jazz have on the floor.

Going to get burned alive for saying this but even though Millsap had a good box score in the first game when watching the game I felt like he was getting his Butt kicked. Diaw always has seemed to own him and Millsap's career #'s against SA aren't good and Diaw is just making it worse. He can take advantage of Bonner's D but lets Bonner have open 3's, for what ever reason Millsap at the very least should score against SA's PF's but hasn't been able to. In the past it was more understandable going against Duncan but this series he hasn't been.

I don't think they'd bring Sap off the bench now and starting him against Leonard seems like it could be the best match up for Sap to hopefully start rolling like we know he can. Would weaken the bench with no Favors but guess can't worry about that and hopefully Kanter will step up and stop crapping in his shorts like he has thus far in his first playoff experience.

I know we're not paid millions of dollars like Ty, but haven't we all been asking for this for some time now. Now we have Hollinger and Stein from ESPN pointing out how impactful Favors is when in the game. Why is it that Corbin is the only one not on board here?

Not only this, but he wasn't passing very well either. He was trying to do it all himself and forcing shots, as was Al.

Hollinger confirms what most people around here have known for months. Where the **** is Ty Corbin's head? Favors played 9 minutes that meant something in game 2.

I know everyone focuses on playing Favors more, but I also like the idea of starting Burks. Why not? It really can't get any worse and we might as well try something completely different. I know it's rare for coaches to really mix it up if they are being outplayed, but Corbin should consider something like this:

Burks
Hayward
Sap
AL
Favors

I know Burks isn't a PG, but he can easily bring the ball up the floor and pass off to Hayward (who runs our half-court offense anyways).

Good points, except for suggesting bringing Millsap off the bench instead of Fat Al. Either start the big 3 or start Millsap and Favors, with Al tearing **** up off the bench. I'd go with the latter to start and then bring Al in at the 4 or 5 minute mark of the first quarter for a wing, namely Howard or Burks, whoever had started.

The whole point of this playoff run was to get our young un's experience....yet, Corbin hasn't done that yet. A starting lineup of Harris, Burks, Hayward, Favors, Kanter can't do any worse than what we have watched the last two nights. Let's actually get these young guys some experience here.

Oh, and amnesty Jefferson's *** right now. Get that guy off the team. He is a uncoordinated Carmello. Or Marbury. Or Tmac. Or Francis. Or any other scorer that was a ball stopper and disappeared on defense. Jefferson is the worst kind of player, because you have dolts who think he is valuable because he shoots every time he touches the ball.

I Agree. I'd rather have Favors & Millsap, with Big Al off the bench.
