Is Demarre Carroll part of the future?

I just read the Hollinger thread and how he said Demarre isn't part of the future for the Jazz. Personally, I'm not so sure about that statement. Okay, so having the guy start maybe isn't the answer but I think he brings a lot to the table. When you have Demarre, Favors, Hayward, Milsap and either guard, teams seem to struggle with scoring on us. I am not so sure I don't see some real contribution potential in Carroll. What do you guys think, is Hollinger right?

Eh.

He plays pretty well on the bench. Honestly, right now he's a pretty decent fifth option. If he ever attains a semi-consistent 3-point shot (~35%), hell be in the league for a long time.

I for one much prefer him to a player like CJ. Yes, CJ is eons better at creating plays, but he also can't defend nearly as well, rebound as well, or isn't half as consistent. I am fond of Carroll.

Honestly, a bench lineup of Tinsley, Burks, Carroll, Millsap, Favors could outplay any bench in this league, IMO. At the 6 minute mark of the sec on quarter, throw in Harris for Tinsley (unless Tinsley is balling), and Al for Carroll. Play the big three till the end of the half. Same should be repeated in the 4th quarter. Burks and Hayward can split minutes, depending on who's playing better at the given time.

Keep in mind, I would much prefer a player like Brandon Rush. Still, Carroll isn't exactly awful. Ideal 10th-14th player on a squad.

Its either him or some other D leaguer. I got news for everyone, this team isnt changing next year.

You can expect to have atleast all these players

Harris,Tinsley, Watson.....nothing changing there
Hayward, Burks, Bell........nothing changing there
Howard, Carroll................might add some D league SF there
Millsap, Favors..................might add a D league PF there
Jefferson, Kanter...............might add a D league C there

We only have three slots left
I doubt we add anybody that could be considered a starter, and we might not even fill out the roster.

I would love to keep Evans but if I am him I am bolting. I am sure he would like to play.
Like him or not, CJ is bolting for sure. Im sure he wants to play.

Congrats Jazz fans. Next year will be ground hogs day

The guy defends, rebounds, and hits open threes. He is the perfect role player. So, yes, he has a bright future here. Can you imagine a good pg and Favors running the pick and roll while Carroll camps out for the corner three?

Yeah, neither can Corbin.

Idiot.

I think you are right. I think KOC is hoping that come summer of 2013 he will be one of 2-3 teams with cap space to make a BIG FA signing.

Why should we expect to have Howard and Carroll back? They're both free agents and expendable. And no way in hell is Bell hurt so I doubt he or the organization likes the idea of him sitting on the pine for 82 games next season. He'll be gone imo. I see Evans as more likely to be back than any of those three.

I'd give him a one year deal close to the minimum. If he gets a better offer elsewhere I'd let him have it.

See what he can do from there.

Ideally, he'd probably be just in front of Jeremy Evans in the rotation.

You are moron! You act like this is your first go around.

Howard is coming back because the Jazz "rave" about him. And he has "playoff experience" Carroll has earned another opportunity. And to top it off the Jazz dont have the pull or cap room to bring in FA

No way Evans is back. Why would we match any offer he gets when all he does is sit the bench. The Jazz dont see a future with him. And if you are Jeremy, why the hell would you come back and ride the bench. Some team is going to want him.

And as far as bell goes, who wants to trade for him. The Jazz have also said they arent going to amnesty anyone because they arent going to pay someone to do nothing.

Wake up clown.

This post if rife with idiocy.

He is a good late rotation guy. Around 10th or so. Has heart and plays hard. Even those guys are needed for a championship team. I'd like to keep him.

Carrol is okay, but he can fill the limit that the Jazz should enforce of having only one small guy who is not a good 3 point shooter. and he could turn into that, needs to shoot 1000 or more per day over the summer. If he can hit them at near 40%, he is a keeper. If not, only to fill in a spot for D.

Eh, there could definitely be worse out there for an 11th sort of energy guy. I like him personally, other than his jumper (though it seems to go in more than I think it should).

I like Demarre, he is the 3rd best wing we have IMO. He needs an offseason with the Jazz. He hasn't learnt all the plays or anything (if there are any of those).
I really like him as a scrappy Tony Allen type that can hold his own on 3 point shooting. He's also a hard worker, so that's good. Overall, very happy with him for who he is and what he's supposed to be. He's not going to be an All Star, but every championship team has that scrappy guy.

If the price is right and he doesn't pull any Raja Watson bull **** if/when he doesn't get minutes.

He's not a make-or-break part of our future like the Core-4, but he could be a nice role-player for Utah as a backup who's still developing as a player.

Two things I like about Carroll.
-One, he played PF in college so while he has the ideal size and the athletic ability to do so - he's still relatively raw in terms of learning to play SF on the perimeter. In that way, he's very similar to a young Bryon Russell.
-Two, he's exactly the type of player the Jazz need at the wing position, because he's not an established veteran who doesn't (and likely won't) have a multi-year gauranteed contract...so he's hungry which should ideally lead to someone who can provide alot of the little things (deflections, hustle, consistent defensive effort, and someone who feels pressured to make the 'right play' rather than the best play for themself) the Jazz haven't necessarily gotten out of their veterans on the perimeter. IMO the Jazz could do alot worse than having Carroll as their backup 3.
