Game 3 Round 1 San Antonio Spurs VS Utah Jazz, Sat. May 5th @ 8pm MT --Official Game Thread--

I thought we were past Hayward's PMSing (Propensity to Miss Shots), but he choked and sucked tonight. I had high hopes after the first game, but he has laid some eggs, and I actually started to want Burks to shoot jumpers and threes tonight and cringed when Hayward shot.

I'm the opposite. I cringe when Burks shoots. His balance is different on every shot and he does random things with his leg kick outs, really bothers me. Hayward's shot always looks good, but he just couldn't step up tonight.

it's always like this. bad start leads to loss. i was so pissed. Now it's too late to change the starting line up

I'm glad Hayward had a game like this in the playoffs though. I hope he really focuses on his shots consistency this off-season. He should be embarrassed by his 3pt shooting performance this series. I hope it drives him.

Watching the Spurs move the ball down court and drop shots is like watching a pool master hit trick shots and exotic combos.

That's how I normally am, but Burks was hitting his jump shots fairly well--he didn't hit shots in the paint. Hayward couldn't hit a shot to save his life.

I thought Burks shot the ball well tonight, especially considering he had no idea when and where his shots would be coming from. I'm disappointed that Burks and Hayward didn't attempt to get to the rim more though.

Tbh, I'm really starting to hate his game.

Waaay too many isos and awkward leaners/fades, all of which he shoots inefficiently.

I think in a lot of ways Millsap is a victim of our offense really ****ting on itself. He does need to step it up, but I think he has the hardest role on the team in terms of opportunities to score.

Post game ramblings:

Our Bench, despite not apparently playing well on paper, definitely played well. Carroll hustled all game long, Burks was destroying their Scrubs, and DFav was.....DFav. Hayward played decent D, but he killed us in the three quarter. Absolutely killed us. You can't fight a 13-point deficit against the Spurs, there's just no way. We got sloppy in the third quarter, and we just traded baskets for the rest of the way. Jefferson single-handedly muffed our defense up. Howard offered nearly nothing. Tinsley wasn't really that good. Kanter wasn't very good either. This team has got a bright future, and seeing Burks (as ruthlessly as he played) was definitely nice to see, especially given the serious implications of this game. He seems to have the mentality to become a big time player, a la Brandon Roy. Millsap **** the bed as well, disappointingly enough.

I still like that we made the playoffs, though. It has magnified so many different aspects of our players on this roster. We now all know for certain that: Al will probably never win a championship as a team's main offensive option; we know that Favors is quickly becoming the real deal; Harris, as inconsistent as he is, still isn't completely washed up, and should probably stay here until the end of his contract (barring a trade for a PG); Hayward has been slacking, but this will be a great experience for him to build onto, over the offseason; Burks is ruthless, but still bass ways to go. The list goes on.

I'm cool with moving Al Jeffs. I think his value is probably at an all-time high, at least since he was moved for Kevin Garnett. But I don't think Al really lost us the game tonight. The Jazz just didn't get much team offense going except for a few individual efforts from Harris, Jefferson and Favors.

Hayward had an off night on offense, but I thought he played great defense. He needed help on the screens he was getting but he fought through those the best he could and still seemed effective.

One last thought, Al stop shooting outside jumpers.

spurs are really owning the paint and al is clearly struggling to get anything going in there. at least he was knocking down those jumpers today.

imo hayward has had a poor series defensively. our guard play on the pick and rolls is as bad as jefferson and kanter.

jefferson is copping a lot of the flack for the losses so far but millsap has been a non-factor at both ends.

we are trying to play guys one-on-one but when they move to basket we are collapsing too late and they are finding open looks everywhere.

every one of our players should spend the off-season watching the spurs on both ends of the floor. how to set picks and defend against them, how to space the floor on offense, how to help on defense without over-committing...

spurs are just elite. they have the sport completely sorted.

What we learned from the series so far. The Spurs are a great team. Just watch how they move the ball and guys actually cut. They have a boat load of guys who can make shots. There individual and team defense is great. They help each other out and play hard.

Tony Parker is really good. Just another example why the SPurs remain great. They draft and get guys to fill their roles. Jazz should have drafted both Parker, Leonard and Tiago.

Jazz drafted Lopez, Burks and Almond.

Jazz players stand around on offense and didn't get back on defense many times. Spurs rarely do this.

Spurs can shoot the 3 pt. while the Jazz can't/don't.

Jazz should have played our young players more. The Spurs have and they have a better bench. Jazz are talented but they are not as deep as the SPurs.

The Spurs are just better than the Jazz. The best thing about this series is that it shows the Jazz organization we have a long ways to go.

Jazz hopefully will bet a pick and a good player in this draft. The Jazz need more talent and need to get rid of some of the dead weight.

AJ/Harris played well offensively but stunk up the place defensively. Jefferson should be ashamed of himself for not contestng Tony Parker's jump shot. Instead he just turned around to get the rebound. Problem is Tony Parker didn't miss.

Another thing, the Jazz can't win in the playoffs if only two guys show up offensively. They will never win any title if they don't learn how to play defense.

Hayward executed the defensive plan on Parker nicely, but it's not like he did anything mind blowing. He slide under screens and made ok closeouts on his shots. It was more of Parker just settling for jumpers than great defense.

Howard also did better offensively than Hayward in about a 1 minute stretch where he hit a post up shot and a 3 pointer.

I didn't really feel Jefferson's defense was that bad today. I thought the going under the Parker screen really helped hide Jefferson's defense to a large extent. We held the Spurs under 50% shooting, I consider that a win.

Lets be honest, getting Jamal Tinsley, Demarre Carroll and Josh Howard into the playoffs is a pretty big achievement right there. These are players that almost no one wanted.
