I think you can afford one small like him, who is great on D and hustle. But only one. The Jazz generally have it backwards, thinking they can get by with only one small who is a shooter. There is no way we should be loaded up with so many smalls who cannot shoot: harris, tinsley, watson, carroll. Harris has been better, but overall he does not scare opponents. The others the opponents would invite to shoot.
Carroll isn't great on D though. I have yet to really see him lock anyone down. He makes some hustle plays, that is about it.

He is playing better D than Hayward and actually does something with the ball when he gets it. Hayward runs in and doesn't even do anything when he should shoot he is passing and when he should pass he is shooting.

I don't care either way. We could get someone better I bet. At the same time, I also want to see what would have happened if Carroll stayed in the starting line up. We might have played a lot better. We had some pretty good chemistry going at the time.
Carroll has shown great improvement on his shot this year. This is a guy that is shooting 36% from 3 that literally had no range his first few years in the league. Showing the willingness and ability to improve your game to that extent is a very good thing. Lock him as a role player, and who knows, if he keeps improving he might even end up more than that.

He's still a work in progress. He's improved. And the cost to roll the dice is almost nothing.
Lockdown perimeter D is so rare that it's almost a myth. Especially when Big sAl is your defensive captain.
He did play great tonight and did a great job pressuring. Still don't really want him and would like to move our team's personnel towards perimeter shooters since our defense is going to be anchored by Favors (and hopefully Kanter).

He averaged 37% this year, which sounds good. It was on 1 shot attempt per game though. That isn't stretching defenses. Part of the reason you want 3pt shooter is for their floor stretching ability. Good 3pt shooters have days, even weeks where they are cold, but they always stretch the defense.

he is still learning to play on the perimeter. He could get markedly better. Not great, but serviceable. He just needs a corner three.

I don't feel like I'm suffering from Ronnie Price syndrome; I'd like to have him back as a 9th/10th man. $1.5-2.5M. He hustles and gets his hands on a lot of balls. If he can hit the 3 at 36-38%, he is a great (re)signing.
