The biggest thing the Lakers do with bigs and defense is instruct them to keep their arms straight up. Then once the offensive player changes the ball to go around the player, go after the ball. So they'll be straight up when contact happens, avoiding the foul, then block the shot after the player adjusts his shot. Boozer loved to do that, and is good enough to do that against players his size or weaker athletically. Gasol and Odom were neither, and Bynum was too big with just enough athleticism.
Jefferson, in contrast, either shoots the short hook, and is tall enough to not be bothered by Gasol or Bynum, or plows right through them, which doesn't work against active shot blockers, but should work against guys that hold their ground.
So in that sense, it is encouraging to see what he'll do offensively against the Lakers.
