Yeah, I think the Bobcats are the kind of team Sloan could whip into shape and make them surprisingly compete, which would probably **** their future as they get a late lottery pick instead of Shabazz.
I would LOVE to see what Sloan could do with the Bobcats team, especially if they can land Davis, or Thomas Robinson. If he could seriously improve the teams record from last season, I think he would be essentially cemented as one of the best coaches in NBA history, no-debates.
Wow, to you and Cy, I really cannot imagine a universe in which Jerry Sloan coaches in a situation guided by the worst GM/owner ever. Jerry, if he does in fact coach, will go somewhere he will be supported. Bobcats uh zero chance. No real coach will go there until Jordan sells.

This could be good news if he takes all his staff with him (Layden, Corbin) and we get SVG or Johnson.
I would love to be a fly on the wall to listen in on the convo between Sloan and MJ, a player who twice daggered Sloan's former team. Charlotte needs a Hubie Brown like coach and I guess that might get them interested in Sloan. I think at this stage of his career Sloan is maybe looking at a 2 or 3 year stint
like Hubie Brown did with the Grizzlies, trying to develop and mentor a young team and not necessarily joining a contender to win a title.
Iam a bit surprised by all this though. Never thought Sloan would be interested again, although he did'nt close the door entirely earlier. I thought the physical grind would be too much for Sloan too(apart from the mental grind) who has had some surgeries earlier. But looks not apparently, although it remains to be seen whether he actually lands a job. So this means that it was really Deron the jerk who was a bigger factor in pushing Sloan to do whatever he did earlier and it was not the day to day coaching grind as much. Some of you might say you already knew it but still.
Who wouldn't jump at the chance to switch from being the head coach of a franchise known for the greatest coaching stability in modern sports to being an assistant coach for an owner who has no clue? This could be good news if he takes all his staff with him (Layden, Corbin) and we get SVG or Johnson.
As good as your explanation sounds I've had conversations with multiple people that were directly involved in the situation who said the reason Sloan quit was DWill.Or maybe the grind got to him and now he is bored out of his mind in retirement. He sold his tractors and now he needs to do something. Sloan just admitted he was bored. Seriously, it amazes me how some people have to have a bad guy to blame. I am sure that there were a lot of players that contributed to Sloan getting burned out besides the fact that Sloan isn't actually a mellow individual himself. I am sure that Charlotte only have happy players who will do whatever Sloan wants.
From what i've read, the Hornets (MJ) actually have been in contact with Sloan, the Magic have not. He even said THEY would have to express interest in him before he'd consider the Magic. I doubt that will happen; Jerry would want control over how he deals with Howard, and I'm not sure the Magic owners would quite trust Jerry on that one...
Believe it dude. He and Jordan are suppose to meet this week to talk about it. It's a possibility and Sloan has at least expressed enough interest in it to talk to them. I think Sloan will go wherever he feels he is the most wanted/respected. I'm sure Jordan respects the hell out of him for being the competitor that he is and knows he would add a toughness to the Bobcats.
Excellent post! Sloan would be a GREAT fit in Charlotte. In Orlando, he'd have to deal with Howard whining to management that Jerry's being a meanie... Actually similar to AK in Utah back in the day...Hard to root against Jerry Sloan...can't do it.
But the issues he had with the team towards the end of his tenure were real and likely to follow him to any new team he coaches. Jerry is a system guy...take what you have and plug it into the system and play hard nosed ball. He had great success when he had pieces that work in that system. He had surprising success when he had lesser talent...the system works, at least as long as you have players that will buy into it. However, that system was better when the rules allowed a harder nosed style of play. The game has developed and changed a bit. It's not that the game has passed him by, it's just that he believes in the system, and for valid reasons it works well. Until he runs into a team like OKC, or the Heat, or the Kobes, etc. or any team led by a Tony P or Nash type PG. He had a hard time making in game adjustments, and believed in sending guys in at regular times in the game...again part of his system approach.
If the Bobcats want an instant turn around from being bottom feeders to being in the middle of the pack, they couldn't go with a better coach. The Magic (and Dwight) though, are shooting for something a little beyond that
Seeing Sloan coach Walker and Davis would be fun.
Seeing Sloan coach Cousins and Jimmer would be funny.
