NY's Proposed Ban on Large Sugary Drinks

Well than ban Marijuana so I don't see why this is any different.
Actually, not sure if it has passed yet or not but NYC had proposed that small personal use quantities of pot are "legal" (small fine, no jail time/sentence) in NY so pot would be OK in NYC, a Big Gulp illegal.
EDIT: It is actually a state wide proposal, not just NYC.

They claim they want to ban large sodas because they make you fat. But they have no problem with large beers, which are essentially equal to sodas calorie wise. Another example of democrats trying to tell us how to live our lives.

This is idiotic and very symbolic of the nanny state that the far left wishes to create. If an individual wants to buy a giant soft drink then they have every right to do so. Idiotic proposal.

It's funny to me that this could gain any traction at all. How can you just cherry-pick one beverage that is unhealthy. If they had proposed a ban on 250 calorie caffe lattes from Starbucks there would be anarchy in NY.
NYC Mayor Bloomberg is a Republican. Still, why should a little thing like a fact get in the way of your pronouncement?
Like it or not, everyone pays for bad health, one wway or another. This law is a bad way to try to contain that, but the underlying truth persists.

Nevermind... the limit would apply to restaurants, mobile food carts, places that the department of health assigns letter grades to--food service establishments. Grocery stores and 7-11 would be exempt.

No, I'm saying that is what happens when you let the government ban one thing. They think they have the power to ban over things. The reason for marijuana being banned is because that it is "unhealthy and bad for you", so by that same regard they can probably justify banning large sodas.
So the key is to make everything legal.
I figured as much but wanted you to elaborate. Thank you for doing so.
As for "everything" I say no. Hard drugs ( not mary jane) should stay illegal

I guess the assumption is if you serve smaller portions, people will consume less. While that may be true for the majority of people who are only 10-15 pounds overweight, it's not true for the morbidly obese fat people who are overweight to the point of it being a health/social issue. For them it has nothing to do with portions. These people are fat because of their relationship with food - they eat for reasons other than nourishment; whether it be depression, anger, hobby or whatever. So if Bloomberg's goal is to solve an actual health issue, not much will come of this.

*sigh*, this is stupid and it will probably never pass. I mean, what will stop people from buying two small/med drinks? Only a true douche would try to enforce such a ridiculous ban.

Actually not even Bloomberg knows what he is. He was a democrat until he ran for office at which point he became a republican. He left the republican party in 2007. He is an independent at this point.
