Just when you thought Tomic talk was dead....

David Locke ”Lots of questions this time of year about Ante Tomic and the Jazz. The Jazz still hold the rights to the 7'2 220 pound 25 year old Croatian. He is currently playing for Real Madrid in the Euroleague. A little background, Tomic was a point guard until at a late age grew from a guard to a 7'2 light center and still plays soft. Tomic had a poor year this year for Real Madrid, he played just 14 mins a night and didn't take the step in development many had hoped. Jazz are in discussions with him.”

Screw Lillard/Marshall, let's bring in Tomic!

This could help me overcome my Jonas V. sorrow. Can Tomic shoot from the outside? Watching a random Euro has been fun for all these years, I kinda hope jazz grab another 19 year old euro we can follow for 6 years.

I think KOC said on the radio a couple weeks ago that Tomic still has another year on his contract, and the Jazz are still in contact with him and that if he develops, he could still end up here. This ain't baseball, the kid has been "developing" for a long time now.

You don't want to bank on Tomic ever becoming a contributor - but you also don't want to competely right him off as a poor developmental prospect. The concerns about his strength are obvious, but 7-2 guys with skill and touch don't grow on trees. Yes he's 25 but there's more precedent in recent seasons of foreign players coming to the NBA between ages 25-30 and becoming competent role players. Additionally, european leagues aren't always the best situation to develop/gauge the development of big men. Once Tomic signed that contract w/Real Madrid I think it became obvious he wouldn't be coming over any time soon - but I still think he's going to play in the NBA at some point.

It's still a little-risk/decent-reward situation for Utah.

That is basically what KOC said.

What happened to the other euro clown we drafted that year?
Tadija Dragicevic - playing in Italy. Now that's a guy I never expect to come over (he was supposed to play in the Jazz's summer league a few years ago so Utah could evalute him but he was either injured or something came up where he didn't make it). For awhile he had good production but it came against weaker competition. My only hope with him is we can someday use him in a "Peter Feshe" role.
