Why did Jerry pull out of the Bobcats coaching job?

I'd say he asked Jordon to sign/trade for a few of his old team, Jefferson, Boozer, Kirilenko, Ronnie Price... etc, and Jordan said NO.

.. and that abruptly ended the interview.

Because that is how a man like Jerry bows out gracefully from a postion he is not likely to get. Jordan probably let Jerry know he wasn't getting the job, but Jordan was gracious enough to let Jerry tell the wolrd it was his choice.

because Jerry likes to quit on people

I agree with this trollish post from our esteemed moderator, who banned me for being trollish.

Jerry is quitter, and we should all boo him next time he comes around.

In all seriousness... I think Jerry is losing his mind and he probably is in a life crisis right now. He probably doesnt feel the same without coaching. He probably feels like he has lost apart of his identity and is getting desperate to get it back. Which is the only reason he considered the job. But then came to his senses.

I still think this was Jerry's way of putting his name out there. It makes no sense for him to take on the worst team in the league at his age and this stage of his career.

How about when a top 5 coach in the business wants to be your coach, and you delay on making him your coach you lose out.

i think there could be something here. imagine you're planning a community concert. you can book a garage band from one of the neighborhoods, you can book a relatively obscure indie band with a good track record (say, like, wilco), or you can book radiohead. so what happens when you ask radiohead to come audition against the garage band? at a certain point, if you want the best, you have to learn not to dink them around.

also, knowing jerry, i wouldn't be surprised if some of it is he didn't hear what he wanted to hear around FO support in dealing with players. that's always been a huge thing for him -- it's the reason he lost his job in chicago, it's the reason he stayed over 20 years here under LHM, and it's the reason he eventually quit when the guard changed. i would dare say that's more important that just about anything else to jerry -- i mean, yeah it's a historically bad team, but he knew that when he expressed interest.

don't think there's much to the theory of jordan denying him the roster of jazz guys. jerry knows it's hard to move players around and overhaul a roster overnight. he's also always said (seemingly with sincerity) "that's not my job, i'll just coach the guys our GM puts in the gym."
