I meant to vote "yes," but also would like to see a pick in this draft so I can see that vote.

There was a lot of evaluational value. We saw playoff Jefferson, playoff Corbin, Playoff current Jazz. It's not just that they got the experience, it's also that KOC saw them and their performances and has that much more experience to make personnel decisions.

I know I'm in complete opposition to some posters on this but the idea that KOC sees that series and decides to just stand pat is flat out stupid. The roster must change at least a little and Corbin doesn't get another free ride season. It's easy for fans to make early evaluations but the people who have responsibility for those decisions are way better off being more informed.

As much as I've defended Ty I also have maintained all along that a huge reason for backing the effort to win now (then) was evaluating him as a coach properly, which could not happen in a tank scenario. IMO he can still be a great coach, and we better hope he is but there is no doubt he got worked by Pops.

I like Al, he's a good player but is not a fit for this team. Same goes for Harris. Those guys need to be moved for better passing and defense.

I have the same stance I always had.

Playoffs and one pick is the best, second best is two picks and playoffs and no pick is the least best. So I am not mad we made the playoffs but this was the worse case good scenario for me.

Even more reason to miss the playoffs. Spurs completely annihilated any confidence the jazz had. Plus, now koc may feel more compelled to keep the mediocrity train together one more season.

I agree with this. If we had been more competitive then maybe i would lean a little more to the playoffs being better. Since we got destroyed then i dont think that playoff experience was nearly as valueable. Also agree about how the team is less likely to make changes since we made the playoffs.

So i believe that if we would have missed the playoffs last year that next year we would have a better more talented team (adding a lottery pick) and i also think that missing the playoff may have made KOC more likely to move someone (big al, harris) which would have also made us better.

In short: Making trades to improve the team + Draft pick > playoff experience from getting swept in the 1st round.

Problem is that KOC and jazz management might just say "we will get better because the 4 young guys will be a year older, have a full offseason, better chemistry, etc etc." So there is no reason to make roster changes.

So far its 16-10 in Favor of Happy We made the playoff i think Thats what i Expected but i dont know if there are going to be more people to Vote or not. who knows though maybe i think we can make a trade to be in the first round if the Cap allows it and then the Playoffs experience will be Huge because we didnt lose a pick Because of it i think.

Playoffs, easily. Not just being in them, but playing the hard games down the stretch to make it.
Pick, meh..get back to me when the 14th makes a splash.

Clyde Drexler says hi.

Or did you mean people after the 14th pick. Like John Stockton (16th pick) and Paul Millsap (47th pick).

The only good thing I saw from the playoffs was Jefferson's true self. The way that he gave up and publicly said that showed me that he is not going to be a winner as a #1 or #2 option on a team. I know that the Jazz were extremely disappointed in that as well.

The process of getting there did nothing for you, including those last 5 or six clutch wins at the end?

It made me happy for about 2 weeks and then suddenly any possible happiness I felt was ripped away after the first game against the Spurs and it only got worse from there.

I am still happy we made the playoffs. Its not like as if making the playoffs excluded adding another piece to this team. As someone showed in another thread Jazz will still have money and assets to play around with. When you can make playoffs as well as improve, why would you settle for not making the playoffs and improve?
And this draft by recent analyses doesnt look as deep as it looked earlier. It has just one surefire winner. Glad that we didnt tank hard for this draft. We already have 4 lotto picks. Lets see if atleast a couple of them make the big leap next season. We can add one more solid vet around them via trades/FA signings if KOC stays pro-active.

I'm a big believer in 8th seed teams developing a sort of swagger. Our core now knows they can compete in this league-- they've made the playoffs. Confidence is an amazing thing to have, and I don't feel there's such thing as 'too early' when it comes to gaining a winning mentality. A winning attitude is a good thing to have, and its what makes our franchise great.

For some reason, I feel like a lot of Jazz fans think our rebuilding window is closing soon. We've got a looong way to go. If we don't get a lotto pick this season, we'll probably get one next season. Most teams take four seasons to get four lotto picks- we got four picks in two seasons. If anything, we're still ahead of schedule. Compiling lotto pick after lotto pick isn't exactly the answer. Our biggest priority is making sure our lotto picks fit together, and gain chemistry.

I don't think you understand, if we don't get a lotto pick this year our current core will be too old to compete. I mean they will be 24 and washed up by then. If all our players aren't within 1 year of each other, we are doomed.

We have the 47th pick so you can rest easy that we're about to land the next Paul Milsap. I'm sure you're right that the 14th pick would have been our salvation. Looking at the list it appears more than overdue for the next Clyde the Glide.

I enjoyed the exaggeration of what I said. Well done.

I never claimed that the 14th pick would be our salvation. I just think it is as equally stupid to say that the pick would be useless. If you do not like that then that sounds like a personal problem.

Edit: I am glad that you are able to tell what everyones NBA future will be like. Perhaps the Jazz should contract you as an independent scout every year around draft time.

Being too old obviously isn't a problem .. however, the timing of contracts, is ..

You see, that's the wonderful thing about tradeable assets. You can actually trade them.

The bulls have already put Deng and Noah on the table for a pick/s and a TPE. The memo TPE isn't quite big enough that we could have acquired either of these players, but let's wait and see who else comes available. A lot of people will be watching rookies to see what might have been, but I will be more interested in seeing what kind of trade value teams get for lotto picks.

It's really still too soon for this thread. The answer really depends on what the team does in the offseason. If they stand pat and make another run at barely making the playoffs with the same roster, I imagine there will be a few people who end up changing their minds. On the other hand, if they decide to shake things up a bit, then maybe I will have to change mine.
