What's new

With the 47th Pick, Kevin Murphy

His freshman year he shot 40% from deep scoring 9 points a game. The next year was a focal point of the offense. I'm sure there was an adjustment he went through, and figured it out his senior year. Give him a chance Wes.

Wes Mantooth has been the ultimate bummer machine today. Hating on us getting Mo Williams and now hating on Kevin Murphy. Give the dude a chance and have faith in the 47th pick.

None of us know a damn thing about him really, but this is cherry picking stats in the extreme.

So the year before this two-year sample he shot 40.9% from three. Then the year after this two-year sample he shot 41.6% from three. I have no idea what changed (or if anything changed) other than his number of attempts increased quite dramatically in his final season.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle as the college game has shorter seasons and the samples are thus more vulnerable to random variance. We're really only looking at about 1.5 NBA seasons worth of games. If we take his true average over the four years we return with an average of around 37%. That's passable for a guy who scored 22 a game. Not certain we could have asked for too much better in the mid second round.

We'll probably never see him do anything meaningful on the team, that's pretty par for the course for mid-second rounders. Or he might be our next Millsap. No one on this board is really in a great position to know.

At a minimum, we know his college 3 point shooting averages are better than Wesley Johnson's. ;)

Thanks Captain Obvious. My point is, people are getting drunk off the Kool-Aid as if this kid shoots like Doron Lamb. He doesn't. 37% is average in college, maybe a tiny bit above average. So yeah, color me unimpressed for a guy who was drafted. At least Machado would have given us some hope for a future point guard. The kid averaged around 10 assists per game, leading the country. Night and day more impressive than this extra from The Wire.

Sounds like he has a good attitude. I think he the potential to be a nice scorer off the bench. I just hope he does a better job than CJ at this point. In fact, I think we just drafted CJ's nail in the coffin.

Also, when I heard 'Kevin Murphy', I was about 98% sure we drafted a white guy.

Was surprised.

+rep for anyone who actually watched any Tennessee Tech games this season, who can comment on Murphy.

I accidently caught a few minutes once when I was flippin' channels during commercials in a different game.

Murphy's kinda good sometimes, and sometimes not that good.

Gimme my rep.

No idea about the kid.

What does that have to do with anything?

I don't see how this isn't a complete disaster. Jazz just ruined my life.

Doron Lamb had wide open shots. Not saying he isn't a better shooter, but chances are Kevin Murhpy was facing double teams on a nightly basis.

I like this pick more than anybody. Could be an allstar or he could be bust. Somewhere in that range.

I like that we picked a senior too

I don't mind us getting Mo if we get a pick or more out of it. Otherwise, it's a marginal move that means **** to us and only helps out our competition more than it helps us. Not sure what's tough to figure out about that.

Yeah, but as a sophomore, he averaged less than 4 assists, so it would've been a bad pick.

And my point was that your reaction is equally hyperbolic the other direction.

37% is average in college, maybe a tiny bit above average.

But certainly better than the 32% crap you were trying to spread around. How did your man crush Wesley Johnson shoot in college?

I'm not even certain that it's true that it's "average." Are you? Or are you kind of pulling things out of the ole' arse as per usual?

At least Machado would have given us some hope for a future point guard. The kid averaged around 10 assists per game, leading the country. Night and day more impressive than this extra from The Wire.

Combined, how many games have you watched of each of these players? I mean seriously, the pretension of knowledge here is somewhat astounding.

That's awesome. I hope he is somewhere in that range to. I saw on YouTube he hit very shot and made 50 points. He is great!
