What's new

Welcome back to Salt Lake - Mo Williams

Jazz are paying for a guy who I would think most everyone in NBA circles would consider overpaid. To take that salary off another team's books usually requires extra compensation.

He is probably overpaid, but it isn't by much and we are only taking it on for a year.

There are times when Mo Williams just can't miss like AIverson and there are times when Mo Williams just can't hit like AIverson.

Dallas Writer: Mark Followill: Seeing Odom get what he wants is hard to stomach. Its eased by Mavs dumping contract w/out paying buyout or giving something up to move him

another reason i like this is i could see Mo aging with the Jazz better than Harris. as long as he is not overpaid or anything, he would be great as a back up pg or combo guard going forward. what numbers do you think Mo would be looking at next offseason? worth it?

"...The Mavericks and Schwartz also have discussed pushing the deadline into July if an Odom trade can't be completed Friday or Saturday."

It' ain't official until the t's are crossed, the i's dotted and the league receives and approves the details. But the main sticking point was getting Mo to sign his contract, which he has agreed to do. So, yes, I'd put this at 99%. I'm still hoping Utah gets another good asset like a protected 1st. It would likely be in the mid-20's, but you could always package it with Utah's pick and the one stlll owed us by GS to move up, a la the Cleveland/Dallas deal.

Eh. I don't totally disagree but I don't think he is terribly overpaid. Maybe a little overpaid or he would have opted out and tried to land a multi-year deal.

interesting.
I'm still waiting for an additional asset though. This is just a writer... and picks they got yesterday aren't exactly excluded by this tweet.

All I have to say is if you told me last year that we were trading Memo for Mo Williams I would have been all over that deal. Well thats what just happened. So no complaints from me

I don't think it's horrible if the Jazz get nothing but Mo Williams, but I would believe if that were to be the case, the Jazz are bringing in slightly less value than sending out.

the fact that his agent called around the entire NBA to see if anybody else would give him a multi-year deal with that type of money and STILL opted into this deal says that, yeah, he's overpaid.

but beyond that point... this trade couldn't happen without the jazz, and usually in those types of situations, a team gets compensated for bringing their TPE/cap space to the table. odom-for-mo works straight across, but since dallas' whole motivation was to dump LO's 8.2M salary, that means LAC needed a place to dump some salary. regardless of how over/underpaid mo is, the jazz still did both the mavs and the clips a huge favor here.

I want Cunningham, Jazz will rule the world with young sgs and 1 year left on my contract vetrans!

Does anybody think the Mavs trades for Jared Cunningham, Bernard James, and Jae Crowder so they could keep all three? What say you, Verlin?
I think they were trying to get assets to trade for Dwight Howard. Dump Lamar and others, trade for Howard and ask Deron to come aboard at a bit of a discount in order to compete for a championship in his home state.
