What's new

Jazz trade Devin Harris to Atlanta for Marvin Williams (merged)

The Pacers just signed Hill to a four or five year extension. I would've liked Collison here but with Mo now, it's never happening.

That can be had anywhere. Being stuck on a team going nowhere is not worth it to DWill. At least that is what I imagined that he would say if I talked to him about it.

Well, I think he can sign for like $20 million more if stays with the Nets. I think he stays.

I was thinking about ATL as a possible destination for Harris earlier in the day, as the only PG they have is Teague (and he proved that he is not a fulltime starter yet). Williams makes about $1.5m less than Harris, but has an extra year. If it includes a pick or one of the players they got for Joe Johnson (maybe bring back Deshawn Stevenson?), then I would do it. Danny Ferry is obviously looking to get expiring contracts and rebuild. I wouldn't be surprised if Ferry takes a flyer on a Horford for Howard deal. It would pair Howard with his good friend Josh Smith and ATL is Howard's hometown. Maybe a year in that setting and a ton of cap space next season will be enough to convince Howard to stay a Hawk and forget about Brooklyn?

brooklyn may have "gotten him for peanuts" in terms of what it took to trade for him, but they'll pay through the nose for this. joe is owed about 70M over the next three years - 21.5m then 23.2m then 24.9m. and he's clearly not good enough to lead a team past the second round, so why do you pay him kobe/jordan/shaq type of money?

he'll revive himself a little if he gets to play with another elite player (like dwill in brooklyn), but atlanta knew what they were doing by trading him for a bunch of expiring deals.

oh, and btw, i say "if" because apparently the trade is contingent on dwill deciding to stay in brooklyn.

Who is the source of this Marvin williams deal? I see nothing outside of these guys talking about it on 1280. Atlanta boards dont even have a thread regarding this.

I'd say look for Collison to either be a Laker or a Maverick depending on what happens in the PG sweepstakes. Pacers will need a big man to replace Hibbert (if he goes), so I could see Collison for Brendan Haywood or Collison & David West for Pau Gasol.

Um Teague proved he IS a fulltime starter this year...

"peanuts" had nothing to do with his contract... which is one of the worst in modern NBA history. Yeah.

If they are willing to look past the $$$, get a "big 3," pay the tax... well...

meh. 12.6 points and 4.9 assists in 33 minutes per game don't scream "career NBA starter" to me. he essentially had the exact same per-minute production as the previous season, just that he got more than twice the minutes. shot a little better from the field, worse from the arc and the line.

Yeah but it sounded like he was saying that they should bring in Devin to start when his stats are no better...

I'll say it again, a bad deal is a bad deal. Johnson has a horrible contract and once the honeymoon fades away, Brooklyn will be kicking themselves. During the last two years did anybody ever utter the words, "boy, I bet Atlanta's glad they gave Joe Johnson that contract?" I bet they have a decent year (48 wins) next year, but don't really ever improve on that.

I like Joe Johnson. He is a good player. This will make them a lot better. I think Deron likes him too. Deron is staying in Brooklyn.

Im not sure either that this means a Dwight Howard deal or trade in the future is off the table either. We just might be part of a deal that sends Gerald Wallace back here.

They need Dwight to contend but they will still be very good with that back court, Gerald Wallace, and whoever else.

Mo/Watson
Hayward/Burks
Marvin/AK?
Favors/Millsap
Jefferson/Kanter

Me thinks that's about a 4-6 playoff bound team.

umm, bull. they are better than teague's. per 36, devin averages 14.8 and 6.5, teague 13.7 and 5.3. advance stats: nearly even on PER (devin 16 - teague 15.8), assist % favors devin (28% to 24%). plus devin is a proven commodity, and teague is a fluke rule candidate.

Just going online and on SportsCenter: Hawks have agreed in principle to deal Marvin Williams to Utah for Devin Harris to shed even more $

It's been agreed.....
