I hate how 1 dumbass team can overpay a player then that becomes the pay-rate scale for all players at that position.

....excellent point, and that IS the point! We can't go pell-mell head over heels just because a bunch of clown teams decide to throw good money at mediocre players! If they want to waste their money, it doesn't mean we have to throw our hard earn cash away, too! All those players on that list our overrated, and some of them aren't even rated very highly.

Millsap is almost on par with David West as a player. Probably he's also on par with Luis Scola, who is making $8.5M with 4 years remaining. I think Millsap would take a deal that averages $9M over 3 - 4 years. He needs to keep expanding his game out on the floor though.

Millsap ****ing destroys West and Scola. Try again.

I am glad jazz fans are not the gm otherwise from these polls we would have Jimmer, Fes and Sap in our starting line up by now. Glad Koc looks for max value and looks to improve the team rather then panic. Expiring contracts on this team can give us some pretty good players when teams are looking to dump their players to get under the cap. Jazz have a lot of options to improve this team and are not done yet. Glad the jazz got bigger and longer today.

Millsap does beat up on Scola. That's true. David West, however, was an All-Star in the Western Conference a few years ago, and had a better playoffs this year than Millsap did.

I don't think you can judge this by individual match-ups. Carl Landry used to get the better of Millsap. Gustav Ayon outplayed Millsap twice this past year.

Good points. The Jazz may be able to flip Jefferson's or Millsap's expiring deals into longer term deals with players they really want.

The Nets are a bunch of morons, and always pay players that are almost worthless. Does anyone remember the infamous Evans slam??
Sap is 10 times the player Gerald Wallace is, but 10 is a little much for an undersized forward.
If Sap shows that he's got even more range at this stage in his career, it's a no-brainer.
On the other hand, I'd pay him 10 just so I didn't have to see him buried by Portland.

Kris Humphries has agreed to a two-year, $24 million contract with the Nets.

Humphries will make $12 million in each of the two seasons of the deal.

The Bobcats and Cavaliers were two other teams interested in Humphries at various times.

New CBA, new rules. Paying 10 million for a guy who is overmatched in his position half the time and is not an elite defender or crunch time scorer makes no sense to me. If KOC or ya'll want to then go ahead.

The only issue with this position that I see is that for the Jazz to have a chance to get to the level of serious contenders in the West, they'll need to have Millsap or get something very good for him. Undersized and overmatched or not, Millsap's exactly the kind of guy the Jazz organization values and his heart and efforts to improve constantly make me think the Jazz will make every effort to sign him to a 3 or 4 year extension, probably at $10m+ per year.

I'm all for 1) letting Al expire and 2) extending Sap, if Enes can man down C and Sap will accept the 6th man role. I wouldn't flinch at $9M-$10M per.

But we can't pay him $12M-$13M just because Billy King and Prokhorov are braindead. You don't let idiotic contracts legitimately dictate the market for free agents. If that's what Paul ends up demanding, you let him walk.

I'll say it now, the Nets **** the bed this offseason. Yes, they'll be in the playoffs. But we all know that was not their goal. Williams, Lopez, Kris, Gerald Wallace, and Joe Johnson make a very nice team, but they are a cut below the Bulls (with a healthy Rose), Thunder, Heat, and Lakers and are now stuck in salary cap hell. Barring a trade for Dwight Howard, their championship plans have gone bust. After a few straight losses in the ECF, they'll get the same sour Deron that we got.

Bear in mind this is the Nets we're talking about. They should probably be playing Wallace as a 4 instead of whatever the **** they're trying to do now. If they need or want to trade Humphries in the next two years, they're then trying to trade a net-negative asset. So what now, they're going to start Wallace as a 3 and only have 2 players to stretch the floor?

But if all things are equal, if Humphries is worth $12 then Millsap's worth $14. I wouldn't pay that, I'm just saying.

I mentioned part of this in the free agent thread in NBA general, but one reason the Nets are paying Humphries so much is to reward him for only giving him a one-year deal last year. The other and more important reason is that they will be desperate for rebounding since Lopez is a piss-poor rebounder for a 7-footer.

I doubt that is the case. I really can't explain it. Maybe Humphries has a Kim Kardashian sextape of her getting gang-banged by the entire Nets front office?

They aren't paying him $12 to reward him for the past, no one does that. To me they are paying him $12 for taking only a two year deal. Maybe he couldve gotten $9 a year for 4 years somewhere else. Nets didn't want to give 4 years so they overpaid and gave him $12 a year for 2. It doesn't do anything to set the market for Millsap, unless Millsap wants to take a 2 year deal.

Some posters think the more you say things and the angrier you say them the more true they become.

If millsap is your best player then you might as well blow the team up.
If you have to pay a sixth man ten million while lacking a top five talent then you're setting yourself up for failure.
Teams are giving away wings, the position jazz need to fill.
