I got bad news about Marvin Williams

I was checking out the Alanta Hawks forum and they are ecstatic about getting rid of Marvin Williams.

He earned some qaulity nicknames such as "Superbust" and "Duck Booty". They mock him by quacking.

Some of their excitement was over just shaking things up. But clearly you can tell they werent thrilled with him.

I find it quite insightful to see how a teams own fan base thinks about one of their players. No one knows them like they do. Marvin might happen to fit here and blend in. But I have to say this lowers my expectations.

He didn't live up to his potential in ATL and didn't play well with the other ball hogs on that team.

Don't worry, their thrilled to have Harris, that shows you how well they know talent.
 
Yes, he might've not been too great considering he was a 2nd overall pick, yet he's better than what we have. An actual 3 with actual size 6' 9" 240.
 
He was a top 2 pick - just like Darko would never be liked in Detriot but is a servicable role player in Minnesota.

It's all relative.

I just hope Utah can talk M-Will to take the ball in the paint more often a la Donyell Marshall during his short stay. With his size and athletic ability he should not be settling for jumpers all day.
 
Deron Williams and Chris Paul were picked immediately after Marvin Williams. We're getting him to be the fifth starter. BIG difference in expectations.

THIS. He has shot too many jumpers in the first 10 seconds of the shot clock. That speaks to bad coaching as much as anything else. He won't get away with that here.
 
On The Hawks message board they refer to him as Marvin "Gaye" Williams.

I guess that's about as clever as they get in Atlanta
 
I think this is a great move. He has great range and I feel he was totally used incorrectly in ATL. With Marvin Williams at 3 and Hayward at 2, we finally have long wings!!!

Do you even understand the concept of this thread?

They dont know Harris sucks because he hasnt played for them yet.

The day after Al got traded I checked out the Wolves forum. It sounded very similar.

I agree some of the joy is because he was number 2 overall, but that still dont change they dont care for him.

Hawks fans think they have a shot at Howard and Chris Paul. That should confirm how delusional they are.

You know who else was a bust on their draft team? How about Favors???

There is a very real possibility that Williams will have a similar change to what Favors had coming here. He gets a little respect, he gets the ball passed to him, and he is friends with his teamates. Oh, and the fans cheer for him rather than boo him.

Besides, he's not making an unreasonable amount of money for what he's putting out, in fact I wouldn't be horrified if we re-signed him for the same amount when his contract is up ASSUMING that he improves his game by about 25%.

In order to get picked in the top 3 a player usually has to have certain raw talents that cannot be learned. He has these talents, Millsap doesn't. No matter how hard Millsap works, there are some things that Williams can do that he can't.

(not that Millsap doesn't bring great things to the table, in fact if Williams spends some time with Millsap and picks up his work ethic, Williams might actually come close to his potential. hmm, guess i'm bandwagoning.)
 
Back in the day, I'm sure 76er fans weren't happy having Jeff Hornacek as their "star" player to replace Charles Barkley. Did that stop Hornacek from have a great career in Utah?
