Following potential 2013 draftees

It’s early, and a lot can change (see: 2012 draft outlook), but the 2013 draft could be very promising for us.
After 2012-2013, we should have a clear (or clearer…) idea on the current roster unknowns:

1. Is Mo Williams our PG for the next 3-4 years?
2. Are Hayward (more likely) and Burks (still unknown) our answers on the wing?
3. Are Favors (almost a certainty) and Kanter (still highly unknown) our frontcourt of the future?

In light of this, I will have a keen eye on the following prospects:

Point Guard
• CJ McCollum (…how much untapped potential does he have?)
• Myck Kabongo (…needs to get miles better)
• BJ Young (…is he a PG?)
• ???? (…who else could emerge?)

Shooting Guard/Small Forward
• Shabazz Muhammad (…MKG with a polished offensive game? You had me at MKG)
• James Michael McAdoo (…is he a 3 or a 4?)
• CJ Leslie (…learn to shoot, my man)
• Archie Goodwin (…a seriously talented kid. Needs polish)
• LeBryan Nash (…needs a big sophomore season)

Centers
• Cody Zeller (…would pair nicely with Favors)
• Nerlens Noel (…would pair nicely with anyone)

Right now, I’ve got us slotted for two draft picks…my guess would be between 10-14 (GSW) and 17-20 (our pick). My hope is that we move some combination of Al, Millsap, and/or Harris for another unprotected 1st next year…potentially to a bad team (likely yielding a top-10 pick).
I know that’s easier said than done, but three first round picks next season would be gold. It would give us a ton of flexibility to address the following potential needs:

1. A replacement in our big man rotation for Paul, if we don’t re-up him
2. A point guard
3. A wing, if Burks/Hayward don’t make “the leap”

Not to mention, it makes any pick in the draft in play. 3 1st round picks + our stable of young talent could yield a top-3 pick. If Noel or Shabazz (more likely, for our needs) emerge as can’t-miss, franchise-altering talents, we could make our move a la Deron Williams in 2005.

Very solid post, Mike. (I'll rep ya)

Couple comments;
Watch for Ryan Harrow, Julius Mays, and Trey Burk in the PG mix.
I do see BJ Young as potentially being able to play PG, but still a big ?
Shabazz isn't MKG. He's an offensive weapon, has a tireless motor/work ethic, all similar .. but he's a much more selfish player and doesn't do all the non-box score stuff.
McAdoo is a stretch 4. Not fast/athletic enough to be a full-time 3 .. much like Millsap.
I like Nash.

I would still make priority 1 an elite PG .. but it won't be found in the draft for us .. for years.

Agree and agree. It looks like a dry spell. Though, have you seen Kasey Hill? 2013 Florida commit? He is a really talented kid, and I love the fact that he plays for Boyle down at Montverde. Those St. Pat's kids always turned out alright..

Yeah, he's good. Just not future of the franchise/last missing piece good. Next great PG is Harrison ('14 draft) ... but hopefully we won't be in position to get him.

By the way .. it seems this thread is a bit premature for most .. so talking about the NEXT year is totally ridiculous, right? I know.

Therefore, I put what I'm hearing on the '14 draft class ('13 recruiting class) in my personal forum if anyone is interested. (Only did the top 8 ranked players in '13 .. and my EARLY prediction where they'll make their college choice.

And T-Rex arms.

That he does .. but he also has much more of an 'it' factor than Tyler. Plays with a chip .. nothing soft about his game. I like him, but also agree his length will likely keep him from reaching any real greatness.

The list of great, or even really good players in the NBA with short arms is very short. And for a reason.

What do you consider short? Zeller is pretty unique in that he has a shorter wingspan than his actual barefoot height. That is kind of weird, even for regular people.

There are a pretty good # of players though who have equal, or an 1'' longer, who are pretty good.

As long as Zeller has a respectable standing reach, his wingspan isn't that big of a deal.
