Free Agency 2012 Thread

Not huge news, but Rudy Fernandez is going back to Spain: "Rudy Fernandez: Tomorrow, my deal with Real Madrid for three years will be oficial. Really happy to be back! I will tell you why I've taken this decision!! Twitter"

Another biggie: Adrian Wojnarowski: Brooklyn has agreed to a 3-year, $5M sign-and-trade for Reggie Evans, sources tell Y! The Clippers will get a distant future 2nd round pick.

Nic Batum does not want to return to the Portland Trail Blazers "under any circumstances for a variety of reasons," according to an NBA source close to the situation. Batum, a free agent who visited the Minnesota Timberwolves this week, is said to have told the Blazers Tuesday that he does not want to return to the team.

And:
Nicolas Batum: trust me I didn't... Twitter

Go figure.

Finally (for this post): Lakers plan to meet with Antawn Jamison and try to make a sign-and-trade for Steve Nash.

Eric Gordon plans to sign a 4-year $58 million offer sheet with the Suns, which the Hornets are expected to match. I guess Eric Gordon was quoted as saying that his heart's in Phoenix now. Maybe a half-hearted effort to deter the Hornets from matching?

Looks like now that the Deron Williams watch is over, we are switching to the Steve Nash Watch...

Rumblings are it is between a sign and trade with the Lakers, or a straight up signing by the Mavericks or Raptors.

Also, Mavericks are throwing their name in the Jeremy Lin sweepstakes. Free agency is getting interesting...

I think Batum is being overpaid... big time.

I'm hearing from some message boards that Jeremy Lin is going to sign an offer sheet with the Houston Rockets for 4yr/40 million. 5/5/15/15. I can't find any confirmation on this. I would assume the Knicks are going to match for Jeremy Lin, right? I mean, that guy is marketable money making machine.

Looks like the Knicks are in the lead for the services of Steve Nash. I wonder if he thinks he can resurrect Stoudemire's career?

Ilyasova's agent says Ersan got a huge offer from a European team. He also states that Toronto, Brooklyn and Milwaukee have keen interests in him.

I think that European team is CSKA or a Spanish team.

Do you think he will just follow the money? Or do you think he wants to play in the NBA? I can never figure these Euro guys out all the way.

Goran Dragic will sign with the Phoenix Suns 4/30 with 1 million bonuses for all star games.. so, in other words, 4/30.

Not even close to the 10 million per he was asking for.

Wow, that's a good deal for the Suns, 7,5 per year. I believe in this kid. He will get even better, imo.

He once said that he looks at it as a bussiness and will choose the best offer.

However in my opinion he should stay in the NBA even though the teams that are interested in him are not the best destinations for him. He still has many years ahead of him for a "returning to Europe" move. And he can get good offers from european teams even after his 30, because he's one of the rare players who can play both NBA and European basketball.

Actually it a bit depends on which Euro-Team made the offer for the matter of my point of view. For instance, if it's a turkish club, either Efes or FB in this case, I want him to stay in the NBA. Because they are in the rebuilding mode and won't be succesful in the short time period. If it's CSKA, they are kinda full at the PF and also they are not a long term consistent team(roster wise) so I don't want him to go there either. Same thing goes for rich Italian teams, well only Milano in this case.

The only teams I would consider if I were him are spanish teams, especially Barcelona which is his old team anyway. But honestly I don't know their current roster stiuation. And even in this case, if there isn't a big gap between the offers after all the taxing issues counted, I don't want him to come back europe at all. Because in europe he has to be a team player whereas he has the potential to be a star in the NBA.

I would imagine that if he were to establish himself in the NBA he would be able to demand MORE when going back to Europe. If I were him I would stay in the NBA (even with slightly less money) just because I don't think the European door is going to shut anytime soon. But that's just me. He's got to do what's best for him and his.
