A story about prayer

Wow, that's your argument?

It doesn't matter how ridiculous it sounds to you, or to anyone else, it's about respecting people and their beliefs. Good job on sounding like a **** head though.

You ridicule all the types of people you mentioned all the time, yet I'm the dick? You only DON'T use terminology that is offensive to gays when the site is cracking down. And I'm the dick? You've always been more of a dick on this forum then most people combined, but since more people here believe like you do, you get away with it.

I find it quite funny that you really believe that.

TS, I woke up this morning worried that my posts were only fueling a major fire .. glad this thread remained cordial and respectful.

But why is it off-limits? Race categorizes different groups at random as being part of a similar entity. It doesn't have any clear meaning, nor does it signify anything specific. The only reason the concept was created is to create division. But that is neither here nor there. Society rejects racism because it is prejudice against someone for neutral personal traits that cannot be changed. As obvious as that seems, racism was common and socially accepted until very recently. Sexuality is even less clear. Surely not ALL sexuality is treated as off-limits. People aren't tolerant of pedophilia or bestiality. They aren't even tolerant polygamy, which was the norm through out history. You're simply talking about gays. And until about the 70s, homosexuality certainly was not off-limit.

What I'm trying to say is that there should be reasons of why something is accepted or tolerated. Things don't just magically become moral. Modern society has made the objective assessment that things outside of our control should not be criticized. So you can't treat someone differently because of the amount of pigment in their skin, or because they had a limp or a lazy eye.

So why can't we criticize religion? The one and only reason is because those who, amazingly, believe its claims get their feelings hurt. That is not a valid reason to protect anything. Unsurprisingly nobody cares if you talk a mountain of trash about Ancient Greek religions or Mayan ritual sacrifices. It is only one's own belief that needs protecting.

Did I see you down at Temple Square this year burning a pair of Magic Undies? I guess you have a point, Siro, and I really don't know what to tell you. I also see the irony of me telling you to respect other people. If you feel like you need to belittle and "hurt people's feelings" because you've thought about it A LOT more than anyone else and can justify it, then by Gordon, you go right ahead. Hail the the 2nd amendment. At the end of the day, you'll still be a douche. At the end of life, I'm pretty sure that the God that you profess to think is a lie, myth, and folklore will gladly accept you into his arms and probably say something like, "Man, you were a douche. Welcome home." At that point, I'll give you a high five, go grab franklin, and proceed to tip over an outhouse that Col*on is crapping in.

I addressed the irony in the above post, but it still stands. Like I said, some things are off limits. You can scour this site until you're blue in the face, but I promise you that you won't find a single post of mine making fun or belittling any of those groups mentioned. No doubt, I'm a dick, but for different reasons. It also helps that I'm a bad ***, so I do tend to get away with more than anyone else. (the mods in my back pocket don't hurt either)

You say stuff like, "That's gay" as a pejorative all the time. Of course, you're just joking, so it's okay, right?

You're so far off here bro. Siromar is freakin' spot on and you simply can't live with it. I find this hilariously ironic as you're the one typically ripping everyone else for getting their panties in a bunch but now that the shoe's on the other foot, well...

Let me ask you this. What did Siro say that was so disrespectful? That he doesn't respect religion? Jesus bro, get a grip.

Hmmm someone must not be too secure in their beliefs if they are neg repping people who speak honestly about them. And an admin at that...

I think this is a good day of religious debate. Starting at 6am and 17 or so hours later we're still talking, wow. We all love our God .. whether it's LDS, another religion, or self .. but let's choose civility in our walk and discussion with others and theirs.

Good night, loves.

Well, he equates "questioning" with "disrespect." And to get all pissy because someone questions one's belief in the absurd, or to use a less negative connotative word, the abstract, and call it off limits for reasons he has yet to justify, or tried to using distinctions that aren't analogous at all is just isn't right.

If you consider your post that I neg repped to be an honest representation of LDS beliefs, then you need to get out more.

You say stuff like, "That's gay" as a pejorative all the time. Of course, you're just joking, so it's okay, right?

Nope, it's not okay. Once the mods put a stop to it, it stopped. Old habits die hard, I'm afraid, and I've got the infractions to prove it. That being said, I have no problem with saying things are "Gay" or calling a friend "Gay". As soon as a gay person tells me that that's offensive, I'll stop. As it stands, the four gay people that I know, and one relative, have unequivocally stated that it's not offensive. "Queers" on the other hand... I don't say that anymore.

Go back and read, bro. I said he had a point, and WHOA... I'm still alive! (PBUH) I do love to rip on people, but I can also take my medicine. How, exactly, am I getting my panties in a bunch? Nobody has taken any real shots at me in this thread, so why would I care? All I see is a few people who have a superiority complex and feel the need to tell everyone how wrong they are. The topper is that they're being dick weeds about it. Since when does telling people that they're jack asses equal getting my panties in a bunch?

Let me ask you this. What did Siro say that was so disrespectful? That he doesn't respect religion? Jesus bro, get a grip.

Read the thread. Read the responses. The fact that he had to post that he would refrain from being his normal *** face self from here on out should tell you that you're wrong, as usual. But ya, I'll work on getting a grip post haste.

Personally, I found Siromar's posts refreshingly thoughtful and honest. I found them respectfully restrained. Brutally honest. Thought provoking.

Trout's on the other hand were, as he'd like to say, a steaming pile of ****.

Good God bro. Change your tampon. And then try to show some intellectual honesty.

You're not getting it. I don't attack religion to hurt other people's feelings. I do it because I think religion is a bad thing. I don't mean bad for me. I mean bad for EVERYONE. Even those who say the only reason they don't go around killing people is their faith. It's bad for those people too. You act like the random categories you chose to respect are somehow morally superior. But how so? I can justify my position on any grounds you wish. Can you justify yours? There was an article on BBC about a rise if child sacrifice in Africa due to re-emergence of old faiths that promise compensation for the sacrifice. Would you have posted a comment complaining about the off-limit subject? Would you have justified those actions as moral? Or is that faith perfectly fine to criticize because you don't interact with any of the adherents.

I am perfectly comfortable with my morality because it stems from reasons I understand and support. I don't struggle with moral issues because if I turn out to be wrong about something, I have no problem changing my mind.

Oh, and I never burnt any magic underwear or anything like that. I've been in numerous heated arguments with all kinds of people. But I never performed the rituals atheists are so fond of.

If you consider your post that I neg repped to be an honest representation of LDS beliefs, then you need to get out more.

Perhaps I should have been more clear and said talking honestly about their religions (relatively recent) history. But you know the fact is that was preached from the pulpit by an LDS prophet. Sure, that no longer is generally believed by mormons nowadays, I know because I used to be one, but that just illustrates how silly the whole thing is! I mean, if Archie wants to use words written thousands of years ago to prove something about prayer, why can't I use words spoken merely a hundred and fifty years ago to do the same thing?

So the only people that matter are the people you know. Four gay people (or is it five, and don't know your relative?) are the ones that get to determine for YOU what's offensive or not.

Don't fret. He neg repp'd me too. He does so every time I talk about religion. ;)
