Summer League: Utah vs Detroit Mon. July 9th 1:00 MT

Who said anything about expecting that? There is a reasonable hope that they would considering where they were drafted and that they weren't overmatched in a whirl-wind rookie season.

But I've found that fans should be concerned if their 2nd year guys don't look good in summer league.

Agree. Ill give them another game though before I start think hmmmmmmm. But Kanter and Burks should look really good against these guys.

I'd feel a lot better if someone could cite players that bombed in summer league of their second seasons and went on to be stars. I'm guessing it almost never happens.

Maybe not quite the right comparision, but I remember sitting out at SLCC watching Lonny Baxter dominate this guy named Nene Hillario. I laughed because I hated Denver and they had drafted Hillario ahead of Baxter.

Not really concerned. I didn't expect either to really dominate SL. I was just hoping to see each had added something to their game that they didn't have last year, I guess it's still fairly early into the off-season though.

With due respect, Burks clearly showed last season that he can play in this league and potentially play at a high level. We have enough data points on him that I don't think his play in one game in summer league is sufficient to outweigh what we saw last season. (By comparison, does anyone here really think that Kyle Singler's NBA ceiling is higher than Burks', notwithstanding how Singler played compared to Burks in this game?)

The one I'm concerned about is Kanter. I do not want to put too much into this one lousy summer league game, BUT Kanter's play continues to demonstrate what, to me at least, are two of his biggest weakness that were consistently on display last season: (1) absence of go-to move in the low post and (2) inability to finish at the rim. Geez, does anyone get more shots rejected than Kanter?

OK guys, I'm quiting the Jazz fanhood and leaving the board. Kanter is a bust. I can't post anymore with this embarrassing kid playing like this. Feel free to use my username.

LOL have some faith. I mean he tore apart the Nike Summit with 34 points. He just needs the right players/coaches surrounding him. It'll be cool if Phil Johnson came back to the Jazz. I don't have too much confidence in our assistant coaches (even Horny).

Kanter and Burks still sucking....this can and did get worse
My bold prediction:

KOC made two phone calls from the stands:
1) To J. Howard's agent offering him a contract
2) To Paul's uncle, begging him to negotiate an extension

Kanter and Burks looked absolutely turrible. Burks still drives and can't finish. Kanter still has hands of stone and is good for a few rebounds and hard fouls, but no offense. It's premature, but it sure looks like the Jazz may have blown those two lottery picks.

You think?

I think expectations were set a little too high for this game. I am not worried about Burks nor Kanter. Burks seems to be having and off day and Kanter (considering his age) has plenty of time to work on his moves.

That was sarcasm man, I know for sure Kanter has a big potential but now, this season, his time on the floor will be very important for him to show something to all of us. He has to prove himself. It's really on his own hands now.
