The Newsroom

Anyone else watching this on HBO? Another stellar show by the network. And I'm not sure I've ever seen Daniels in something where I necessarily really liked him. He's a stud in this and I highly recommend it.

And Jeff Daniels has been excellent in lots of things prior to this: Pleasantville, The Purple Rose of Cairo, and Away we Go come immediately to mind. Although there were several years where I couldn't tell him and Bill Pullman apart for the life of me.

The Newsroom is Sorkin at his worst. It's Olbermann mythologizing, speechifying, demeaning to women, and incredibly insulting to the industry it purports to cover.

The only scenes worth anything have been the ones between Daniels and Sam Waterston. If we could turn this into a sitcom where those two are forced to sleep in the same bed for some reason and Waterston can complain about how scratchy Jeff Daniels beard is for some reason there may be hope for it.

when I had Mono a few years Ago i asked my dad to Rent me a bunch of war movies Cuz I liked Braveheart a lot when I saw it and he rented me Gods and Generals and the guy from Dumb and Dumber was in it and it was the worst movie Ive ever seen. I thought i was watching for 5 hours And turned it off in the middle cuz Nothing happened there was No fighting at All it sucked But my dad watchs Newsroom and I was watching it a little with Him and saw The guy from gods and generals and was Like this show is prolly wack so I stopped watching

I watched the first episode of Newsroom and half the second before turning it off - now I'm done.

Sorkin's style of creating dialogue just doesn't appeal to me.

I'm a huge fan of Sorkin's short-lived Sports Night, and The Newsroom is kind of a spiritual successor to that. The show has me pretty well hooked.
