I meant re: Kawhi Leonard.
No story to link, it was on the radio. Jeff mentioned advocating Kawhi Leonard to a talking head durring an interview after the draft. The next day the guys on 1320 interviewed KOC, they asked him about Leonard dropping (he had been projected higher) and if the jazz had considered him. KOC responded that they had evaluated all the players amongst the coaches, scouts and management and Burks was rated highest remaining player and the Jazz decided collectivley he was their guy, yada yada yada standard answer. Then the talking head, says "well Jeff Hornacek told us last night that you were suprised by Leonard dropping and that he wanted the jazz to draft him" and KOC got real defensive and snappy, responding" He did did he? well, I'm going to have to talk with Jeff and remind him that it is a coaches job to coach and managers job to find players" he went on to say that inexperienced people get caught up in the excitment of draft night rather than trusting the scouts that have worked on evaluating players all year, and that the Jazz met as a group and reached a concensus on the draft order and there was no reason to get excited and change your evaluation on draft night.
As for Chiesa, the story that I heard was Jazz were going to draft a pg. C. Paul, Felton or the other guy. Chieasa's principle coaching duties were with the gaurds, and he was very much in favor of Paul. Jerry and Kevin wanted He who shall not be named. Chiesa says, Hey I work with the gaurds I'm going to be working alot with this guy so let me do the picking and I like Paul. Of course Chiesa lost the battle. Feeling completely unappreciated and perhaps giving too much of an opinion to his bosses Chiesa found an 'opportunity' in New Jersey that was too short lived.
Heard Chiesa on the radio a few weeks back gushing over Chris Paul. "Major talent, top 3 players in NBA, makes his team better, great attitude......" Then the host says yeah, and Dwill is pretty good too. To which Chiesa says flattly, "yes he is, when his head is on straight. "
It sucks to be right and unemployed.
The moral of the story is that the Jazz do not tolerate disent.
