Exactly. You don't want to do something that would screw over your franchise for years in terms of other teams not doing business with you.
Hindsight is 20/20. They had to take the chance.

We haven't heard the last of Dallas yet. They may take a step back this year but if they're smart and don't tie up their future cap space with panic moves, they'll be a major player again in 2013. Dirk will be 36 then but I see his game aging well and he'll still be one of the better 4's in the league. Yes, letting Tyson Chandler go in pursuit of Deron and/or Dwight blew up in their faces but that doesn't mean they can't recover. Heck, last year we were all laughing at the Lakers for trading Odom after the failed CP3 trade and now here they are with Nash. 12-straight years in the playoffs...they'll be back.
