Kanter Review in the First Preseason Game

Last season ... what about yesterday? He still is constantly getting his shot blocked at the rim. Why?

1. He's too slow in his reaction
2. He doesn't attack the rim with force; he ought to watch Griffin, or Favors even.

Yeah, and while we're at it we should have Mo watch Jamaal Crawford on how to run a team. Is Kanter ever going to be able to even imitate those guys? No. So why have him try? If I were on the staff I would have him watch endless film of Duncan and both Gasols.

Thanks for the article, sir.

But why everyone says that Kanter has picked up the "up-and-under move" from Big Al? It's not true at all. This article claims the same.

It looks just like Big Al's up and under move. If we had seen him college doing it then no one would talk about it.

1 is the key. His awareness is a little slow at this point so by the time he makes his move there is another defender or even two right on him. With the Williams bros on the perimeter hopefully he is kicking the ball out to them regularly basis. Even Dwight Howard kicks out to his perimeter guys constantly, he knows trying to beat an NBA double team is a fools game.

And yet he has never averaged more than 2 assist per game in a single season.

This game today has me even more discouraged. He misses a wide open dunk; he lets his man run the floor ahead and get a wide open dunk. Some of the bigs who were drafted way after his position are looking much better. Tell me how he is any better than Koufos at this stage?

5 assists in 3 games. Needs just 3 more assists in 2 games to equal his 8-assist mark from the 66-game regular season. Think he'll make it?

I'm not sure I can take any more of this ridiculously premature Kanter bashing.
Don't know if you were referring to me. If so, I probably expressed myself poorly. I'm hopeful on Kanter. And though it's a bit fun to poke at him for his low assists, I'm really poking as much at those who argue that we have to get rid of Al (and his black hole tendencies) to make room for Enes. I'd be happy to see that happen -- don't get me wrong, but I'm not going to worry too much if it doesn't happen.

The other thing I'm trying to point out that Enes's assist rate is higher by a factor of about 10 compared to the regular season. It's likely that he's using the SL to work on that part of his game. Good for him. In the long run that's probably more important than working on being a dominant scorer right now.

So many losers on here whining about Kanter. Guess what fellas, he could end up being a piece of ****. There is no reason to sit here and whine about him. We drafted him and it is over. Unless you have a time machine to take us back to force KOC to pick a guy who you think was better, get over it.

Good post. I agree, during the SL it has seemed like he's been better at passing out of the post. And yeah, I think KOC will wait to see if Kanter is ready to take on a bigger role before letting Al go.

I just can't believe people are still bitching about Kanter after he puts up 12/12...Burks is the only one to outscore Kanter in the past two games, unless I'm mistaken. Isn't that what we should have expected coming into this?

Yeah I know.... seriously wtf??

So what if he missed a dunk, every player in NBA history has missed dunks.
He missed a defensive assignment in a summer league game..... well I guess it's over then.

Do you really think he's taking these games all that serious?

It's a lot better to pace yourself over the summer, feel yourself out and work on your game step by step.
I guarentee that's what his coaches are telling him, and I'll bet he grows by leaps and bounds by the half way point of the 12-13 season.

You guys can't see through your homerism. For his rookie year, I accepted all the excuses, plus he was playing against NBA stars. Now he's playing against scrubs and he isn't playing any better. Sure he's big and strong, but that's about it. Seriously ... Koufos had some 20-point games in the SL before we packed him up in the trade for Big Al. People, myself included, were giving lots of slack to Koufos because he was young and showed flashes like Kanter has from time-to-time.

But Kanter was slow, is still slow, and has the same moves he had two years ago. He still is not a good outside shooter and he can't jump well. It's like he has lead in his feet.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid. Even the beat writer in Orlando had the headline, Kanter's size bothered Magic -- It did? How many times did Kanter get blocked? The box score says twice, but they missed one of Jeremy's blocks. And Kanter had no blocks despite that the Magic guards were constantly going to the basket. Heck, Luke Nevill was holding his own with Kanter and Nevill who also can't jump blocked one of his shots.

Like I said, I hope I'm wrong, but it's not looking good.

Oh, and Jeremy looked considerably better than Kanter -- though as we know, his lack of bulk hurts. Did you see that Nicholson kid ... love to have him instead of Kanter, though he is older and Kanter's size gives him more upside. But Kanter's slowness and lack of jumping ability, I fear, is going to prevent him from ever being more than a backup, like Kosta.

There's not very much homerism coming from me, other than what I see.

Do I agree that Evans looks better than Kanter most of the time, yes.
I've always been a huge Evans homer admittedly.
But I don't agree with a lot of your comments.

I thought Evans should've started over Josh Howard at the 3 last year.
Obviously with Marvin now, that remains to be seen.

But Kanter is going to be the real deal, and I'll love seeing your faces when he goes off again soon like he did in L.A. last season.
