People who own assault rifles, what do you use them for? Just at the range? or obliterating bunnies? Is there really a practical use for an assault rifle? I'm not saying we should automatically ban them. I just want to know.
I have shot them and I want an AR-15. I find them fun to shoot and it would be a recreational thing for me.

At a range or killing varmints?
Out in the woods during deer season. Not at deer mind you. Targets only.
Assault rifle is a pretty generic term-
A better description would a semi-automatic rifle with high capacity magazine (20+ rounds).
The 'assault' rifle shown in movies are fully automatic weapons which are highly restricted for civilian ownership.
Most people I know use these rifles to hunt varmits, feral hogs and at the range.

On a side note I have seen news articles describing a shotgun, two handguns and the AR-15 he had as an 'arsenal'. Down here in Houston that would be a 'amateur' attempt at a gun collection. Several of co-workers who hunt have 30+ firearms.
Now each for a different purpose. Target pistol, concealed-carry pistol, skeet shotgun, home defense shotgun, hog hunting rifle, deer hunting rifle, plinking rifle, rifle that their dad gave them when they were 12, etc.
Personally I think I will stop at 7 or 8 firearms including the ones for my wife to use.

Not a big deal. I thought several people might be confused what we were discussing.
Worth the infraction. +22 as soon as I reload my load.
I'm not real huge into guns, but I enjoy shooting things like this. It's fun to just be able walk up to the firing line and just shoot and blow the crap out of a watermelon or a target or a jug or water. I'll probably never own anything like this. I own nothing more than a .22 rifle, but want to get a handgun when I get a CC permit. I would also like to have a shotgun and a high powered rifle (probably along the lines of a 30-.06).
I haven't ever met anyone who goes target or skeet shooting that said I never want to do this again.
While we were dating in high school, my buddies and I took our girls skeet shooting for a date once. My girlfriend (wife now) out-shot all the girls and a couple of the guys (not me). She still shoots a little when we get the gun out.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet. It must be a thing at my HS. My parents dated throughout HS (same school). My older brother dated his wife in HS (same school). There are at least 4 or 5 other couples either my age or my wife's age that all dated in HS and are married now. Something in the water at Granger High.
