Foye and Mo here for multi-years?

Read this excerpt from a post on cbssports re: Foye.

"When I sat to down with my wife and some of my family members," Foye said, "I understood that this was the perfect place for me to take my career as a basketball player to the next level."

Foye signed only a one-year contract with Utah, which used part of its mid-level exception. But Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor said both parties are hoping for a "long-term" relationship.

And, we know what Mo and KOC said in their press conference (which I've put in my sig).

We won't know until the season is over how much these players will contribute, but I like that KOC has managed to bring players over on 1 or 2 year contracts. Maximizes cap space for next summer and if a player isn't a good fit, the Jazz and that player simply move on from each other.

It seems like there have been more 1 and 2 year contracts league-wide this offseason. Everyone's leery of the increased luxury tax.

KOC isn't stupid, obviously he's going entice them by saying if they play great, they will earn a multi-year deal which makes sense for both.

Nobody, player or executive, will come out and say "yeah I only will play here for a year" (except high-profiler idiots like Dwight Howard). So as to whether or not that's the Jazz and Foye's plan, or of that's the Jazz and Mo's plan, there's no way of telling from those quotes because they would have said that regardless.

This, even though I do think players like Foye and William sincerely want to stick somewhere seeing as they are family men who are probably don't enjoy relocating.

Translation: Utah promised me playing time, and would make a great stepping stone, so that someday I can play for a team I really wanna play for.

Foye is the next CJ - this season I put the over/under on the Foye bashing threads at about 22.

this.

the "devil you know" comes to mind. i have predicted the same for mo williams garnering all of last year's harris vitriol. it's fun when new guys show up and we haven't seen them up close enough to realize that they're just as flawed as the guys they're replacing.

Don't dub him that, man. Foye is a bit more consistent, right? Calvin had a lucky 82 game season where he chipped 12 points per game, and Foye has consistently put up over 10+ ppg his entire career. Even had a 16 ppg season, showing that he can possibly blossom. He's still 28-29, not too many miles on the legs either in the NBA.

But this is Jazz land, I knew no one would like the Foye signing, but I see what type of team we are building, and it isn't going to be the typical Jazz team. It's all on Corbin's coaching if he wants to take this team to the peak of where it can go (Championship). We have, in ways and I believe a 03-04 Pistons hybrid.

Foye was drafted 6th overall as PG. It quickly became readily obvious that the guy couldn't run an NBA offense. He was then moved to shooting guard but the problem is he can't hit open shots or guard bigger 2's. So you got a tweener who really isn't that particulary good at either of the guard positions.

To make matter worse his numbers coming off the bench last year were horrid. He didn't start putting up any good numbers until Billups went down and he played starter minuntes. So you got a guy who can't come off the bench and isn't good enough to be a starter.

I've never been impressed with Foye. Who knows - maybe Utah catches lightning in a bottle on a one year deal - but I doubt it. Most folks here will be glad to show him the door at the end of the season.

what do you wanna bet he doesn't come close to 16 ppg this season? or even 12 ppg.

that's what every team without a real star has tried to tell themselves since 2004 when the pistons made the starless model look like it could actually work. guess how it's gone for all those teams...

the pistons were the outliers. in 99% of the cases, you need a star to win a title... which is why the jazz's hopes rest on favors and/or hayward turning into all-NBA or maybe millsap taking yet another step... not on the likes of foye.

Either you fell off, or you're not the real Nerd. Just saying.

And Utah's only hope is to be the next outlier. Didn't happen with Deron (star), Boozer, Memo and AK. Didn't happen with Malone, Stockton and Hornacek. You need 2-3 stars and to have other vets sign at near minimum for their chance at getting a ring. Will Utah EVER be able to get three legit MAX players and then have FA's knocking down the door to sign minimum contracts? It's just not going to happen.

Foye is a backup. In many ways, this team is more like the '04 Grizzlies; legitimately two deep at every position. That Memphis team won 50 games. The Jazz have what looks like a great bench. That may be worth 5-10 games over the course of a season (depending on injuries).

To be comparable to the 2004 Pistons would take great seasons from Favors and Hayward (certainly capable), solid years from Mo and Al and a revival of Marvin Williams' career. I don't see it happening this year, but KOC does have the resources to keep the core and sign another impact FA next summer. And that could vault the Jazz into contention.
