What's JazzFanz's stance on Marriage Equality?

IMO it would help gays be more accepted if they would just let the word marriage apply only to only heterosexual couples. As it is, many people feel like they are being forced to do something they are very much against i.e. accepting gay marriage.

I think brunettes would be much more accepted if they would just let the word marriage apply on to blond marriages. As it is, many people feel like they are being forced to do something they are very much against i.e. accepting brunette marriage.

You really can't argue with logic like that.

I saw this conversation and wanted to join in but I didnt' because I was really late. Now I'm extremely late, but I want to run a question by some people. Please comment (if you already went over it, I'm sorry! Please refer me to which page I should read...I just didn't want to go through 46 pages!)

If we allow homosexual marriage, what is stopping polygamy? If you allow a man to marry a man, why can't three men get married?

I'd be fine with that.

If each of those 18 women have 3 kids, he probably won't be able to afford them. I had a cab driver from Ethiopia, he told me polygamy is a huge problem over there.

Yeah, but he can do that without being married.

Good point.

So why not allow polyamory? If we are gonna open up marriage to homosexual couples, why limit it to couples? If Mormon's allow gay marriage maybe they can bring back polygamy...

If i was in charge you could marry men, women, polygamists, whatever as long as they were consenting adults. Surprisingly I am not in charge though.

Honest question: Does anyone seriously believe that gay marriage will NOT be the norm and commonly accepted within 50 years?

This largely appears to be a generational issue at this point.

I agree. Younger generations have been thoroughly indoctrinated.

Yeah, gay marriage will eventually be legalized.

I just hope I'm not a creepy older gay gentleman when it happens.

Yeah, I'd hate for you to turn out like PKM as well.

I fully expect that many more states (but not all) will allow gay marriage/unions by then (within 50 years), but I think you are overstretching to say that it will be "the norm". I also expect this to stay at the state level and not the federal level to decide if it is legal or not.

I would bet my life on it

That doesn't seem like a strong value proposition.

Ah yes, as opposed to the anti-indoctrination practices of the ancient religious orders that oppose gay marriage. Good point. I award you all the rep.

But seriously, the numbers on this one are too strong. Marriage rates are declining generally and support for marriage equality goes up consistently as you go down in age rage. Furthermore, the evidence suggests that it's a viewpoint that's "sticky" insofar as once you've recognized that gay people are equal it's difficult to go back the other direction. The fossilized record of those who oppose it will assuredly look ugly in the coming decades. I spotted 50 years in the original post, but as a betting man I'd guess the real number is closer to 15-20. There's some real inevitability here as that oldest demographic dies off and consequently stops voting everywhere but Chicago.
