Big Al to Orlando?

OT, would Jazz really think moving Big Al this season? I think we're set with him this year for good.

I was thinking something along those lines yesterday. Al IS a big expiring contract yet he is a serviceable big man that can get a team a reliable 19 and 9 pretty much every night. So for a team who really wants to win, he's either a solid pickup to beef up your frontcourt or a great way to dump salary in anticipation of next summer's free agent market. For Orlando, though, it's pretty clear to me that they intend on tanking this year and trying to get a top-tier draft pick next June. We wouldn't necessarily want any players back from them because our roster's almost totally full. The 17 million trade exception wouldn't be enough value for Al and they wouldn't give up Harkless after insisting that he was part of the deal for Dwight.
It seems to me that, if this trade makes ANY sense for Orlando, it's that they're attempting to rebuild for the long-term future. And that's why they don't do this deal for Al. Trading only the exception and Harkless and taking on Al's contract would put them WAY over the tax threshold in a year that they'll be lucky to sell 70% of their seats every night.
I have a feeling we'll find a good deal for Al at the trade deadline, after some teams have given up on the season and would rather free up salary for the free agent class. I just wonder how we're going to free up the roster space to bring in the players that will end up making the numbers work.

Orlando chose the worst of three trades that were offered to them. The only reason I can imagine they did that is they're trying to have a worse record than Charlotte. They don't want to risk taking on a guy who might help them win some games, especially if he's expensive. No way this trade goes through.

If we trade Al, who on our roster can play 30+ minutes at C? Favors doesn't like playing C to start with; IMO, he'd be very unreliable, especially just staying on the court at C for 30+ minutes. And Kanter is far from ready to play 30+ minutes a game...
Favors and Kanter split minutes at C. Favors plays some PF and the rest of the minutes go to Millsap, some Williams (to open up wing minutes) and then scraps to Evans. Kanter playing more isn't the end of the world. I'd rather see him play 30 minutes than 13, which he's currently scheduled for.
The Jazz aren't in any kind of financial trouble, so we wouldn't give him away for nothing.

Anyone think we might need Al now that the Lakers just reloaded on their bigs? We might need all the depth we can get there now.
I'm not a big fan of Al but his game is kind of built to go up against a shot blocker like Dwight. I remember Al having a good game against Dwight on the road trip when the Miracle in Miami happened.
I think Al is staying put. This is the genius of Kevin O Connor to hang onto him, foreseeing that this might happen.

Soooooo smart. Wouldn't want to land gasol or bynum+ picks and flip gasol or Bynum to Houston for young talent + picks and then tank with a team full of young guys.
