So there is this fist overall pick who is only 24 who is available right now as a free agent and what with the jazz picking up a second pick and two third round pick players this would be a great step toward building a championship team.

And the player is:

Greg Oden........

(ok, there may actually be people interested in this, but seriously, this is one example of why a players draft position is not always an indicator of his talent or ability to play in the NBA.)

There's a difference between a bust and an unlucky dude.

He could have been one of the best bigs in the league right now if his knees stopped exploding.

I think that he might be worth the risk. I know that it is a steep price but if you could get him for about 5 million a season for 4 years then I think you ultimately come out the winner. A Favors/Oden combo would be fun to watch.

He'll never play a game, not worth the risk.

Never mind. I was thinking way to prematurely. Offer the vet min and see if he jumps at it.

If I was Oden I would be doing everything I could to get healthy, including cheating. I would try growth hormones. I would go get stem cell treatment. Some gene therapy. Something. He has got the cash to do it. Screw the rules over here. Go over seas and getter done.

This. I'd love to see Oden play a couple years post butt injecting.

Me too, but don't see it. Those that I've spoken to over the past several years (that make a living to know) have said they'd wager he doesn't play a collective 48 minutes going forward. Hope that's not true.

He's probably taking the entire next year off so he may become available the following season. For the vet minimum that is way worth the risk, but he'll go for higher if he's seemingly healthy and ready for training camp the following year.

The best thing for Oden is finding a team that doesn't need his abilities right away. A team that can be patient with him to see if he will get back to a semblance of his former self. A team that would not need him to play heavy minutes.

okay, okay, I'll drop it.

LMAO - PKM - Your statement made me laugh but it is probably true.

I don't think Oden will ever play. It is truly a sad story because I have heard he is a great kid. I also think that it is a lesson for franchises to listen to doctors when the red flags are there. However, I certainly do not think it would a bad idea to contact his agent to see if they would release his medical records or allow the Jazz to exam him. THen perhaps the Jazz can do due diligence with the German procedure to see if it would help.
