And unless you can prove that a bunch of dead people (and I mean really dead, not just a "clerical error") actually voted, along with illegal immigrants, fake names, etc, then I will continue to wonder why the party of supposed limited government keeps pushing for more and more regulations on our most basic of rights.

Looks like Mitt has made a move to disclose more of his tax info, including a claim that the least he has paid in Federal Income Tax is about 13% of his taxable income for that year.
I'm probably not upper middle class and I have a farm with huge depreciable assets worth essentially what I paid for the farm, and 13% is more than I've been paying on average for the past fifteen years.
Someday I'll have a farm with a basis of essentially zero and if I sell it, the gov will get a lot of taxes, which means I'll probably just replace those worn out assets as the cost of doing business, and keep on taking depreciation, and I'll probably eventually come to where I'll be earning enough my effective tax rates will increase.
What I do see as an actual issue, instead of the hugely stupid one involved in trying to make Mitt look like a millionaire tax dodger, is ask Obama how much payroll tax he has paid in his lifetime.
By the time you figure out how much Mitt has contributed to Social Security as an employer over the years, and how much other payroll expenses he has paid to support our "safety net" society, not to mention actual wages and the contributions to our tax base coming from his employees, Obama is revealed as the absolute incompetent and stupid ideologue he really is.
There is no way we should "hire" folks like Obama to run our country. Just too stupid for words.
On the other hand, I believe we should tax money moved overseas and stored in in offshore banks, or invested in foreign operations, with a very healthy flat tax of no less than 5%. Including the profits of non-citizens earned in this country.

That's how deductions work. If you are paying marginal taxes of 15% on your income, the deduction saves you 15% of its value in taxes.

My take isn't about I.D. per se. It's about whining in general. I do think there should be certain criteria for voting .. like being a U.S. citizen, for example .. and how do we make sure someone is a legal citizen? But, really, my stance was more against anyone who whines about fairness rather than get off their ***.
