World Cup Thread

I think that Findley is going to be a sub that will be using his speed to attack tired legs.

Other than that I am not sure who will be starting.

Does anyone have any side rooting interests in the World Cup, a team with a more realistic shot at winning the the whole thing than the U.S.? My two other teams are the Netherlands and Portugal. Although I'll root for the U.S. first, it would be pretty cool for my family to see the Netherlands win it because my grandpa that recently passed was a huge Dutch football fan (really the only sport he ever followed, even in America). And Portugal because....well, I'm 50% Portuguese.

I'll be rooting for The Netherlands because I'm part Dutch and I think they are one of the most fun teams to watch.

I'll also be rooting for Ivory Coast because Drogba is the man, and I think it would be cool if one of the African teams did well. Too bad they are in the group of death.

Altidore sprained his ankle.

Something tells me that means Findley is going to get more playing time.

Definitely rooting for the Dutch after the US. I just like the country.

While I know they have no chance to win it (probably not even a match), I'll be rooting for Honduras because I went there on my mission. Their soccer team usually doesn't qualify for the WC, so it'll be fun to follow the Catratchos.

I'm following USA and Brazil....the brazilians are going to win and I just hope we beat England. I was on my mission in Brazil in 02 when they last won the cup. It was absolute bedlam. I've loved the world cup ever since. Too bad it's only every 4 years. I can't wait for things to start next week.

Personally, I've never really liked soccer. Let me rephrase that, I've never liked soccer state side. Now in other countries like Brasil for example, it's awesome! To me it's played completely different. Now I don't really care for soccer but hell, it's the damn World Cup and I will be keeping up with it. I love how passionate the fans are. It's simply amazing.

I don't have a USMNT jersey yet, but come the 18th of June I might just go buy a dark blue.

Go Uruguay!!!

Hee hee! Look at this country! "You are gay."

Actually I'll be rooting for them tomorrow. Although for me it's more accurate to say that I root against countries, in this case France. I know I'm supposed to root for Mexico since they are a Concacaf country and it means more spots for Concacaf, but damnit, I just can't do it. Go South Africa.

The great thing about the World Cup in this country is that it's the one huge event that I can go to work during and not hear any of the results, unless I'm dumb enough to listen to sports radio. And even then it's a 50/50 shot.

So far, so good. S Africa - Mexico was a good game. France - Uruguay was better than I expected. I am giddy for US - England tomorrow. Argentina - Nigeria before that should be a good one.
