Iphone 5

I agree that having a smart phone has become necessity. I wholly and wildly disagree that you have to be constantly upgrading to have the absolute best at all times. But whatever floats your boat.

You are right. But I didn't say that constantly upgrading is a necessity. I'm just a phone nerd. I love smart phones. So I don't mind upgrading every year. Ill tell you though, that it does have many benefits. My S3 is 10x the phone I had just last year. They improve quite a bit each time. But even this phone still isn't a finished product. No phone is. I'm already looking forward to the next one. Still some improvements that can be made.

I'm long overdue for an upgrade...

Haha. I have never seen that sharp wizard. That thing is hideous.

You do need an upgrade. The top phones out there are light years ahead of that pink thing. My phone is damn near a laptop in my pocket. My phone loads web pages faster than most laptops. That's my favorite thing about it. I'm just an impatient person

Unless you are a business person or someone who travels frequently and doesn't have time to use a laptop, smart phones aren't really a necessity.

Unless you consider tweeting instagram pictures of your outfit (cough, dalamon, cough) to be a necessity.

Ya I suppose that if you never leave the house, they wouldn't be that useful.

I've had an iPhone literally since the first day the original was released. Never really had a problem except for my home button crapping out on this latest phone (my fault -- water damage). I think the 5 looks sweet, and I'll most likely buy it.

Did you get my private message?

People are suckers for technology. That's all there is to it. I wait for my phone to start crapping out on me before replacing it.

Then you're missing out. Technology is just about the only thing I spend money on. I have a 7" Nook tablet for reading, which I use for several hours a day. I have a 10" Transformer tablet I use for media consumption and web browsing/posting on Jazzfanz while at work. I have a Droid Razr smartphone. All put together, they add up to what? A week's salary? I switch phones when the battery starts crapping out, so every 3 years or so. I bought my tablets in late 2010 or early 2011 (don't remember), so I won't be replacing them for a while yet. I'll wait and see how Windows 8 turns out.

More importantly, I wired my house with an Arduino board and smart sensors everywhere. Everything, from thermostat to sprinklers are fully programmed and automated. I control lights, TV, and other living room equipment by hand gestures or voice commands through a MS Kinect. I am even trying to embed a display into the bathroom mirror and connect it to the internet. :p

I have other upgrades in mind. If Google Glass actually takes off, then I have some really grand plans!

Technology is wonderful and I encourage everyone to try and get into it as it will become a more and more integral part of our lives. Those who say a smartphone or a tablet or whatever are not necessary are missing the big picture. They will always be playing catch up and complaining about how "complicated" new tech is. I still hear people talking about how hard a smartphone is to use, with cliches like "I just want a phone". That's despite the fact that smartphone are infinitely simpler to use than a PC, which we've been using for decades now.

I know moms that use them to organize sports events, school activities, doctors appointments, birthdays...It saves them time and simplifies their life. Try telling that to them.

Getting a new gadget is as close to Christmas morning for an adult. Its a toy. Im just lucky its a new toy I can to play with that I already use 50 times a day.
