What's new

Call me a homer a thousand times

al and millsap aren't our core? they are 1 and 2 in points, rebounds, minutes, attempts... giving up al/paul IS giving up part of our core.

i'm not saying either of those would necessarily be bad deals, but al/paul are more "core" to who the jazz are right now than kanter or burks.

Ya, Al and Millsap are our core if we want to be a perennial 8 seed. The young guys are our core if we want any kind of hope of winning a championship.

i don't think it's a triviality. defining our core is pretty important if we're going to start making franchise-defining moves. if we're referring to someone who played 13 mpg last year as "core" and other guys who carried the team as "non-core", then i think we kind of messed up.

now, if we have decided we want to switch out our core for a different core, that's another conversation. but let's not fool ourselves: right now, guys like burks and kanter are not central to the team's success.

and remember, this is all coming from someone who is VERY pro-trade-jefferson.

Al Jefferson is not our core if the trade of him is a highly sought after thing.

I've been asked to share no more details. No worries, though, there aren't any yet. Things are still totally in the SAC camp. Time for specific trade talks haven't even commenced.
I've shared some PM's .. But there's not a lot of info, yet.

I just read the first 8 pages of this thread before I gave up. What has happened besides PKM saying there is something looming?

EDIT: this was posted at the same time as PKM's post above. I see that we've rolled onto the 15th page without any info. Ah, the offseason.

He's not a part of our "desired core", but when the guy is the main focal point of your offense, unfortunately he's part of your core until he's no longer part of your team.

Actually, I should pay $2.99 per month for someone to manage me and not let me open my mouth/keyboard.

yeah, this is what i meant. thanks, margo, for stating a hell of a lot more clearly than i did initially.

we may not want him to be part of our core, but he is. he plays more minutes and takes more shots than anybody else on the team, and according to 104 objective voters -- some informed, some uninformed -- he's our highest rated player. if we traded him for cousins, i guarantee you the story on the national level wouldn't be "jazz got cousins without giving up their core."

my guess is that a deal to sell the Kings to Seattle-based ownership is in the offing, but that said deal doesn't stipulate what the Maloofs are able to do with the chips on the current roster. So, if a team is able to put together a deal with expiring contracts + a pick and then open up their wallets to the Maloofs, then a firesale could be had. So, Jefferson plus a pick for Cousins is possible if we also pay half of Jefferson's salary (which the Maloofs will just put in their pocket). Something like that....

i could see something like that... i'm just not 100% convinced the jazz would want someone like cousins after spending the last 2-3 decades trying to prove to fans that they're big on character guys.

(oh and the most the jazz could pay in cash in a trade is still right around 3M... it actually goes up by 100K each year starting this season, so this year the max is 3.1, next year 3.2, etc.)

I understand what the rules say, but when a raid is on, somebody will find a way to slip the Maloofs some millions and some hookers. It doesn't sound like a deal the Millers would be involved with. This is why he'll end up on the Knicks or somethin'

favors for cousins? hell no
big al for cousins? hell yes
big al for cousins + jimmer? hell no

now serious, big al + pick for cousins would be awesome

Interesting thought. If it's expiring contracts they want, Utah is where it's at.

Any idea when something of substance will happen?
