Voter ID - Reasonable or Disenfranchising?

Even so, the longest I have ever waited in line at a polling station pales in comparison to the average time I wait at the DMV (specifically the drivers license division).

Speaking of drivers licenses. It is coming out that one of the biggest contributors to voter fraud is tying automatic voter registration to acquiring a drivers license. Michigan has found that close to 4000 non-citizens are registered to vote in Michigan alone and that a good portion of them have voted in numerous elections.

What does that mean? I mean, it makes it sounds like, "hey, if you vote, you get a free driver's license!"

Emmiright?

4000? LOL - uh no. Try 54.

4000 is the "estimate" put forth by the person who just so happens to want to pass a bill requiring voter ID.

I don't fully understand what you are saying here.

Are you saying that when you get a driver's license it automatically registers you to vote, regardless of citizenship? And implying that showing said driver's license (when you vote) would somehow help prevent this particular voter fraud?

That is how I understood it as well Salty...

4000 (which is a rounded down number) is the estimate based on looking at 58,000 (approximately 1/5) of Michigan licenses and state issued ID. Of those 58,000, 963 non-citizens were identified as being registered to vote. Of those 963, 54 were identified as having voted a total of 95 times.

Extrapolated out that is potentially 270 fraudulent voters actually using their ability to vote. That's enough to change legitimate election results.

For those all about not disenfranchising US citizens, why are you OK with this?

I never said I am okay with this. I am just trying to figure out how the emergency like push for voter id laws will help this in any way.

As near as I can tell, this is proof positive that the voter id laws have little to nothing to do with reducing voter fraud, and everything to do with rigging elections.

Seems pretty reasonable to me that you prove you are a citizen before you vote, and that you arent voting for someone else.

Im tired of the race card being pulled on everything. Getting an ID is easy. If you cant manage to do that, then you dont need to vote anyways. Because you are idiot.
