Overview of northwest division

Lets see:
starters: Love, Pekovic, AK, Roy, Rubio vs M.Williams, Burks, Hayward, Millsap, big AL
I think it is fair to say that advantage Wolves.
coaching: not even close, advantage Wolves
Bench: Budinger, Shved, Stiemsma, D.Williams, D.Cunnigham, Ridnour, Barea, Lee vs M.Williams, Foye, Evans, Tinsley, Watson, Kanter, Favors, Murphy? I would call it even, maybe slight advantage Jazz.
So at the end to me it looks like like Wolves have better team. It is not clear cut but Love alone is enough( superstar, which Jazz lack ) to give edge to Wolves.

So like I said, your opinion. Thank you for confirming that I was correct.

I have to wonder if this is the year that OKC has some sort of major injury to a high contributing player. Since they drafted Durant, all of their top notch draft picks have been healthy.

I just wonder of OKC takes a small step back due to injuries.

I would like to know why in your opinion Jazz are better. Starters? Bench? Coaching? Team chemistry? Fans and high altitude advantage at home? What is it?

Bench? Check. Team Chemistry? Check. Playoff Experience? Check. Fans? Check. High Altitude? Check. Health? Check. Youth? Check. Presuming that Roy doesn't return to 2008 form immediately, I'm willing to give the Wolves a full season before worrying about them getting something like a 6th seed. As of now, Love has never led a team to the playoffs, and Rubio has not had a full season with Love, or with any of the other Wolves players for that matter. I am seriously worried for the Wolves of 2013-2014, but for this season I can't foresee them sneaking ahead of us seeding-wise. This is where mine (and likely Stoked's as well) opinion stems from, in terms of why we think our team will slightly edge them out. Experience plays a massive factor. However, they obviously have two edges in terms of coaching (despite Adelman being only alright with the Rockets) and a better star player. But as many know, there are many more things that factor in an NBA team than simply a on-paper observation. Jazz will do better than the Wolves this season, and you can quote me on it.

I don't think you have the starters correct. Let's say Favors, Jefferson, Marvin Williams, Hayward and Mo Williams.

Bigs: Favors and Jefferson are equal to Love and Pekovic. Or put in Millsap instead of Favors. You have equal points and rebounds. Pekovic isn't a shot-blocker and his assist ratio is worse than Al's.

Wings: Roy and AK vs. Marvin Williams and Hayward. We're not talking about the Roy of 3 years ago. This is the Roy playing on bad knees. And AK is a complete unknown. Hayward was on the Select team and is a rising star. Marvin has been solid, but not spectacular. I might even give a small edge to Utah as I think both Roy and AK will miss substantial playing time given their ages and injury histories.

PG: Rubio vs. Mo Willaims. Advantage to TW's.

Bench: Advantage to Jazz with Millsap (or Favors), Kanter, Burks and Foye. Weakness at PG. Ridnour, Barea or Shved should be serviceable at PG. But Stiensma, D. Williams, etc. are not going to match up against the backup bigs for Utah.

That's a quite a difference in team defensive rating between when Millsap and Favors are on the floor versus Millsap and Jefferson.

What would have been even better would be including the team defensive rating with Favors and Jefferson, but not Millsap.

Bam.

I do however look forward to the entire Northwest turning into a slobberknocker. OKC is...well they are OKC. Utah, Minny and Denver (ugh) are on the rise. I can see all 3 turning into very hard to beat teams. I think Portland has stumbled but with an owner with bottomless pockets I see them turning it around quickly. In 3 years each N.W. team will have 16 slobberknocker games in the division.

Portland has announced it's pre-camp starting 5. Lillard, Matthews, Batum, Aldridge, and Hickson. Who is left to come off the bench aside from Myers Leonard?
