So on our roster we have...

#3 draft pick Derrick Favors

#3 draft pick Enes Kanter

#2 draft pick Marvin Williams

basically #1 draft pick Mo Williams

WOW.

Has to be the most top 3 picks of anyone in the league, right?

They should just shutdown the season and mail the trophy to swatLC.

at the point the clippers traded that pick, they were pretty much locked into the 7-11 range. then the cavs got extremely lucky -- as in, 28 chances out of 1,000 lucky -- and suddenly they had traded mo for a top pick.

UGLI was just messing around. He does that from time to time.

Dallas was trying to CLEAR cap space to make room for Deron Williams. The Mo Williams deal was FINALIZED on June 30th, but agreed to several days earlier. Deron Williams made his final decision on July 3rd, shunning his hometown team for the Nets. Had the situation been reversed (i.e. Deron telling the Mavs he would be signing with NJ) PRIOR to the trade, Dallas could have very well opted to take back Mo. Then again, their secondary target was Nash. And they struck out on Steve AFTER the Mo trade was done.

Sorry, Nerd, I usually agree with your points. But on this one, I think you're very biased. To say Mo's value isn't very high because Dallas didn't want to take back his salary on June 30th is simply wrong. Dallas thought they had a good chance at landing Deron. He was deciding between the Mavs and New Jersey. Of course Dallas wanted to shed salary by dumping Odom. They were positioning themselves to give the MAX to Deron. And KOC wanted Mo. Other teams may have wanted Mo as well, but we had the best offer - i.e. the ability to absorb his salary and not have to give back any players in return.

ok, so if mo is such as asset, why didn't dallas keep him in that trade and then flip him, or better yet, use him in a S&T to GET deron williams? for that matter, if he's such a valuable piece, why did he get traded to a team for absolutely nothing - oh, excuse me, for the right to swap tadija dragicevic and shan foster?

you're right that the deal happened BEFORE dallas swung and missed on deron, but you're wrong if you think that mo is a hugely valuable asset. he's not, because the entire NBA knows at this point what his ceiling is: he is, at his best, a mediocre point guard but a great shooter. at his worst he is, well, worse than that. nobody is going to trade anything of major value to get him. the clippers were more interested in dumping b-diddy's salary than they were in acquiring mo, and even then they never would have traded the pick if they thought the 2.8% chance at #1 would become a reality.

No doubt. Next round will be close and from then on I bet they're nearly even (for who gets ousted).

I have my five mapped out in my head, but honestly really want to see the Jazz build around this core 5 (and hopefully some guys like Marvin are part of that).

me too. burks is next, then kanter. favors is last. still haven't decided if it's hayward-sap or sap-hayward at 2 and 3. probably sap first, leaving g-time and favors last... but i'm not sure.
