Who replaces Korver as the 3 point specialist?

I feel good about Big Al replacing much of Boozer's production.

Raja can replace Matthews.

One big question for me: Who will consistently knock down the open trey?

Raja is a career 41% three point shooter. His career average is actually slightly higher than Korver's.

With the limited time and end-of-game production (of KK), I think Raja makes up for Korver's minutes ... easily, very easily.

Korver's ability to hit shots is more than made up for with Bell. While with Bell you also get a guy that actually plays defense.

Korver averaged just over 2 three-point attempts per game. My grandmama could replace him.
Seriously, at just over 1 made three, it really doesn't matter. Hayward can come off a curl and hit a 2. Is that 1 point gonna win or lose the game? I'd rather have Raja's defense and his 40% accuracy. Yes, Korver had a "career" year. But his 3-pt percentage over his entire career is about what Raja shoots.

Another thing Bell talked about, IINM, is Sloan reallly doesn't like the corner 3's - which is 90% of Korver's game. Miss one of those and there's a long rebound probably going the other way, with the shooter out of postion to get back on defense. Take a 3 from the top of the arc and you're already positioned to get back on defense.

In general, Sloan's attitude toward the 3 varies with his team's speed and ability to get back on defense. At least that's the way I understand his statements on the question.

Throw out the 2008-09 season when Korver played hurt and The Jazz were about 80-35 with Korver and a few games over .500 without him. Before someone rips me apart; yes that stat does not draw a definite conclusion regarding the value of Kyle Korver; but neither does his make/take stats. Yes, ALOT of those wins had little or nothing to do with Korver; but I can count about 100 times when he busted a zone just by coming into the game. And The Jazz, for the most part, have sucked against the zone ever since they re-introduced it back in The NBA

Is Raja Bell going to break zones just by walking on the floor? How about Hayward? Miles? We'll see.

Korver is regarded as one of the deadliest 3-point shooters in the NBA, and therefore commands tremendous respect. Defenses change when he takes the floor and opens up other opportunities for his teammates. Korver is very deadly if left open, but once guarded closely, is far less dangerous, and is not that great at putting it on the floor and driving.
Raja is more of an overall scoring threat than Korver. Hayward appears to also have those same skills, and is excellent driving to the basket and drawing fouls.
Between the two of them, we will be fine w/o Korver, IMO.

Sorry, have to disagree... Sloan's attitude toward the 3 has never 'varied' with anything. He's never been a fan of it, and every statement he has made regarding the 3 ball supports this fact. I like that Jerry is 'old school' in many ways... but this is NOT one of them. The 3 point shot is a much bigger factor than it used to be, and Sloan refuses to move beyond his own antiquated views on this matter.

While Korver's presence on the court was enough to spread the defense and bust the zone, he was never fully allowed to do what he does best, and that was a shame. The Korver 'replacements' will certainly manage to cover his points, but I'm still unsure of the respect any of those guys will command from behind the 3 point line... aside from Raja (to some extent). Sloan will never change his views of the 3 point shot... "take 'em, but you better make 'em", so the Jazz will never take a lot of 3's, but having a 'sharp-shooting 3 point specialist' on the court made a big difference for the offense.

So, I think the real question in this thread isn't about who will make up for Korver's actual shooting (points), but who will make up for the 'threat' of shooting? Right now, I think Raja is the only one who comes close... everyone else is unproven.

Its more important to have a slew of good 3 point shooters rather than one specialist. I think right now, we have 3 guys who are capable of shooting 40% from the 3 (hopefully CJ can get that one year). AK is still our bad shooter, but you can have 1 wing who is like that.

AK shot the ball very well in a few stretches during the season. You could tell when he was working w/ Jeff H and when he wasn't.

.

This is ridiculous. Someone forgot to watch the jazz play past year. Seriously.
