What's new

October 22nd - UTAH JAZZ @ portland trailblazers (8pm MST)

Burks would be my first choice, I'm not as enamored with him as others seems to be. He is a pretty good scorer but he also does really stupid selfish things pretty often. There are a lot of good scorers that don't help teams win, not saying Burks is that guy yet but he easily could become Jamal Crawford 2.0

For liliard? After last night I'd give them Favors or Hayward, and I'd do it now while they still have the illusion of 'potential'.

So much for the 3rd year leap.

How many stupid, selfish, things does Burks do in comparison to the rest of the team? The league? TIA.

Well coming in as a rookie and doing the same amount as starters in 10 minutes a game last year isn't great. All players do them, maybe his are just worse, or maybe his stand out more for some reason. I still feel he could go either way.

So he did as many stupid, selfish, things in 10 minutes as the starters did. That is a very interesting stat. Link?

Burks from last night: 17 minutes, 5-8 from the field, 1-1 from 3pt, 3-5 from free throw line, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 2 turnovers, 1 foul, and the team was +10 while he was on the court.

Doesn't look like he was too stupid/selfish to me.

I should neg rep you, but i have never neg repped anyone before and im not going to start yet..... Soon though if you continue to post such stupid and selfish posts like that one.

In all seriousness though, are you saying Burks and all Jazz players and even NBA players do the same amount of stupid things? Where is your link if recorded facts are your barometer on this subject? I would say that he takes more bad shots, makes more bad passes, etc in less time than other jazz players, yes I would say that. I mean he is no CJ, he is very skilled and he gets to the line, but he is also out of control often.

Mon 5/7 vsSA 16 minutes 0-8 from the field 0-1 from 3 4 rebounds 1 assist 2turnovers

All - Star give him the keys to the team and let him drive us. Good post though.

It's easy to pull up one game and make a point isn't it.

As I recall in the SA game Burks was blindly driving into the help and forcing shots at the rim. Last night he took good, on balance, under control jumpers and got the rim when the space was there. I think Burks is slowly recognizing where his scoring opportunities are in a NBA game. IMO defensively he has long way to go with team/help D. Watch Burks and then watch Marvin Williams.

May 7th? dont be silly bud.... We are past last year when he was a rookie and didn't get playing time.

He had a great summer league, a full offseason and camp to work on his game, and so far in the pre-season has been fantastic.
His outside shot has looked MUCH better, he has been playing more under control and passing the ball much more/better than last year.

In last nights game i remember 2 times when he could have (and probably should have) got to the rim and scored and he passed off instead. The jazz anouncers even said a couple times that burks should have shot when he choose to pass instead.... He isnt as selfish and out of control as you remember him from last may.

Can someone please post Burks and Lillards per 36 minute averages?

For this preseason:

Burks: 18.6 points, 5.2 Rebs, 3.2 Asts, 0.8 Stls, 0 Blks, 2.2 TOs, 4.6 PFs, .511 FG%, .750 3P%, .542 FT%

Lillard: 20.3 points, 3.3 Rebs, 7.2 Asts, 0.6 Stls, 0 Blks, 4.3 TOs, 2.6 PFs, .500 FGs, .407 3P%, .941 FT%

EDIT: This is over 7 games (0 starts) for Burks and 5 games (5 starts) for Lillard.

Thank you, I never said I hated Burks or wanted him gone. The question was asked " If you were to trade one of our young guys for Lillard who would it be?" I said Burks and explained why. Because I believe he, of the 4 young guys, has the best chance of becoming someone that doesn't help the team on a regular basis. I never said I would actually do it, although Lillard looked pretty decent last night, but out of our young guys he is the one I would be most ok with parting with. He very may well turn out to be a great player, he might end up averaging 20 pts a game on 25 shots also. No one knows but FishonJazz so my bad.

That is a good thought out post right there..... I just didn't like the part in your original post when you said that burks does alot of stupid and selfish things.... because so far this year, that is not the case.

Im fine with you saying you might trade burks for lillard (hell i would think about it too and im a huge burks fan).

In these 3 or 4 games we have been able to atually watch he seems to be playing better and more under control. That is a small sample size though, last years 82 game sample he was out of control a lot, sometimes it worked out for him and he killed it, but he only shot 35% on the year and had a 1:1 turnover assist ratio. Those aren't great numbers. I am still totally cool with him being on the court though becuase of his potential.

I think this is a good excample of why being a jazz fan is so stressful at times lol. We lose the games we are suppose to win and win the games we should lose. do you all get that feeling too?

I agree, foj. Lillard looks like a star, and one would have to be an idiot to not consider moving Burks for him. I just find it comical when guys like kk or qman (makes mistakes consistently on defense) pull stuff out of their asses, the same things you could accuse anybody on the team of, in order to validate their points.

Since we have Hayward to play the two trading Burks for Lillard would be a no brainer IMO. Obviously I think Portland would laugh at us if we talked straight up trade.

43% FGs.
