couple of merged quotes from the Denver Post:

Kosta Koufos, whose salary is $3 million this season, is expected to start at center ahead of McGee, whose paychecks will total $10 million in 2012-13. Is there something wrong with this picture? Maybe, maybe not. When Nuggets management gave McGee a four-year, $44 million contract this summer, they paid a premium to keep a talented 24-year-old big man off the NBA's open market after his sensational playoff performance against the Lakers. The Nuggets paid a premium for his potential as a shot blocker, defensive presence and intriguing offensive talent. But McGee is far from a proven talent. Denver Post

Denver coach George Karl is the first to acknowledge McGee's ability. After practice Sunday, Karl said McGee is the team's most talented center, period. But he also said a couple of things that can safely be classified as a lukewarm endorsement of McGee's preseason performance. "I'm not happy, and I'm not disappointed," Karl said. "With my big guys in training camp, I've been waiting for separation — you know, who's going to take the responsibility. The guy, in my opinion, who has separated is Kosta. JaVale is our most talented big and Kosta is our most fundamental big." Denver Post

So, let me get this right, Kosta Koufos was traded as FILL IN to get Al Jefferson to come here, now Kosta is going to start and we wish Al would go away to open up time For Kanter.

I was kinda sad when Kosta went away, I was excited when we got him in the first place. Now he's finally clicking in and the guy we traded him for is making five times more than him and we want him off the team. (well, not all of us, but a good number.)

On a side note, starters were listed for the Jazz: Millsap, AL and MoMo (per jody Genessy tweet)

Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson and Mo Williams will share captain responsibilities for the Utah Jazz this season.
I hope that they did this to try to placate their egos for when their minutes diminish with the surgence of Kanter and Favors, but get used to the 'captains' starting.

Finally clicking or just better than the headcase named Javale Mcgee?

Kosta is a 2nd-tier center. He may have developed into a decent backup, but he's the weak link in a starting lineup. And if you think Jefferson is a black hole...Koufos has ONE assist in seven pre-season games. Jefferson has a career assist average of 1.4. Kosta's average is 0.3!

Three team captains? Well at least Corbin showed he has the balls to make tough decisions...

If it was on the table, I'd do Jefferson for Koufos in a heartbeat. It would free up time and money for Kanter and Favors and KK is pretty much the ideal 4th big.

I'm not saying Kosta would have started here next year, I am saying that he could have backed up Kanter for 3 mil a year instead of having Al holding him back.

He may start but I'd be shocked if he averages more than 16-17 mpg.

I'm happy for Koufos. The guy has almost zero talent - but he's a 7 footer who hustles and plays hard. I figured he'd stick around the league for a while.

I was going to throw out something about Al's usage rate being way higher than Koufus', but then I looked at assist rate, and Al's assist rate is more than twice as much as Koufus' even though Al's usage rate is not twice as much as Koufus'. So I basically ended up agreeing with you.

Kosta was better in junior level then Kanter ( just check his stats in U18 Eurochampionship - he dominated like no other big men, better stats then Kanter or JV). But spending two years in Sloan's doghouse and not playing any minutes did terrible thing to his developement and confidence. Glad he is finally getting chance to play.

So you wouldn't trade Koufos and a couple crappy picks for Jefferson?

I would rather have had him the last couple years instead of Koufos. I like that the Jazz FO has been active lately and trying to make the team better. I'm all for getting better players on the team regardless of what sort of logjam this creates.

We deal with this issue now, we don't wish the FO didn't make the team better.

We would not have made the playoffs without Al, and I genuinely like the dude. He's a great team player regardless of any weaknesses he brings to the team as a whole. Even if I think it's time to let him go, I'm still glad we got him.

What are the official duties of the team captain?

I'm not too worried about the team captain position in particular, I'm just waiting for a sign that Corbin can make tough decisions, is willing to take calculated risks and isn't always going to play it safe. The three team captains didn't move the meter on any of those things.

Of course, Sloan ruined the talent that is Kosta..lol..wow

Yep. Every single young player has been absolutely ruined by Sloan. They've all gone on to have much better careers elsewhere.
While other teams have drafted eventual all-stars, we've been stuck with scrubs like Stockton, Malone, Eaton, Thurl Bailey, Wesley Matthews, Millsap, Deron Williams. Or how about the likes of Blue Edwards, Bryon Russell, Ronnie Brewer, DeShawn Stevenson, Ostertag...even Mo Williams. Those are only original picks by Utah, not counting players like Harpring, Okur, Bell (in his first stint), etc. who came over as younger guys and developed their games with the Jazz.

Bottom line is the guys who worked their $#@!% off played minutes for Sloan. And AK was amongst that group early on. Sloan had no problem with Kirilenko until AK came back camp after camp shooting bricks and without any physical development. Sloan didn't ruin AK; the MAX contract ruined AK. You and Andrei just need to look good and hard in the mirror and ask yourself the real reason why he kept sliding down to 4th option on offense.

Koufos had a great opportunity his rookie season where he got some decent playing time and started some games due to injuries. He played well at times and I expected good things from him. I'm not sure what happened betweeen his rookie and second years, but he looked terrible most of his second season. I don't know if he just didn't work very hard in the offseason or what, but blaming Sloan for Koufos' shortcomings is ridiculous.

Just think of how good Stockton and Malone could have been if not for Sloan.
