What's new

D'Antoni and the Lakers

That team was tailor made for Sloan. Poor 3pt shooting, Center used to having the ball funneled inside, defensive specialist at SF, HOF players at PG & PF, and a bunch of scrubs to coach up as role players. Those people are idiots. Thank goodness.

I didn't think that the Lakers had the three point shooting for the "seven seconds or less" offense. However, the offense should run through Steve Nash, now. That's a good thing for them.

LOL....

I don't think it really matters who coaches them. They're to old, slow, no 3 pt shooting, and no bench.

I hope D'Antoni installs his offense. Nash will run down the court, see he's playing 1 on 5, and notice that his 4 teammates are still struggling with their walkers and wheelchairs to cross the half court line... Of course, who knows if Nash is ever really going to play this year? He's not exactly off to a great start. Perhaps this is finally the year where Nash's wheels fall off?

Lakers don't have the horses or the 3 point shooting to run that offense ala the Suns a few years back. Of course, anything will be an upgrade over whatever they were trying to run before. I also have a feeling that those players will probably play harder under D'Antoni. It really seemed like they were trying to get Brown fired. I've never seen the Lakers roll over so easily and quickly in Salt Lake.

I am just really puzzled by the D'Antoni hire for the Lakers. It's like Phil was just like, uhhhh, no thanks.

I think Phil didn't want to do road trips or all the practices. "Hey if I can just show up for the home game I'm in"

I saw that too. Probably combined with his underwhelming final season made their decision easier. IMO they still should have gone after Sloan. Maybe he turned them down.

Jerry Buss: "Sloan, how's it been? I'm sure you've heard the news about our coach..."
Sloan: "Yeah, you fired him five games into the season."
JB: "Yes, well, right... It just wasn't a good fit and we all knew it."
Sloan: "Hard to say 5 games into the season with your starting point guard out."
JB: "Well, we weren't headed in the direction we wanted to be..."
Slaon: "...five game into the season."
JB: "Okay, right. So, the reason I'm calling. We'd love to hear your thoughts on what you'd do with this team. We've always had a massive amount of respect for you, what you did in Utah and the kind of player and coach you are. Simply one of the best there has ever been."
Slaon: "Mr. Buss."
JB: "Yes"
Sloan: "I hate the Lakers. Goodbye" click

I'd like to think it went something like that.

I think, coach D'Antoni is the second best fit among candidates... I was listening some local sport radio shows on air in LA just after coach Brown had been fired. Faker fans think that LA should be scoring much more and there should be a "show" on the basketball court, which was definitely missing w/ Brown anchoring the team.

PJ is the fan fave. but do not think he will coach again, despite the fact that this Lakers team is built to win "now", which Jackson is great at. Kobe

Kobe has a great respect for coach D'Antoni btw.

Are you guys surprised by this hire?

....I hate being right all the time but this is what I said in the other thread: "Won't be Sloan, won't be Jackson........"That leaves the Suns old coach. He could do the job and fit as well as any coach could possibly fit....if Nash can get healthy and stay healthy."

The Lakers will be better now, but still not great for reasons already stated. However, one thing no one has mentioned is how bad Mike's teams are defensively. LA has already been one of the worst defensive teams this year and that's not going to change with D'Antoni.

This is funny.

Add a few more F words and you are spot on.

This is funny.

....he had bad defensive teams because he had no defensive players. If and when Howard gets back to full strength, he can make up for the fact that Nash is as bad as can be in staying in front of his man, possibly worse than my Dad.....who's been dead for almost a year now!
