Thoughts on Paul George? He has been flying up draft boards and seems to be a very good player. 6'9 wing who has the quickness to play 2 guard. Also his favorite team growing up was the Clippers, which means he must like underdogs, so the Jazz would be a perfect fit for him.

If we are picking 9 and Aminu and Johnson are gone, I might want him over Aldrich,Udoh, or Monroe.

Just watched his highlights on youtube...very solid...I'm not overly impressed but he looked very good...that said, we're in about the worst spot you can be. Top 4 or 5 and you get a stud...6 or 7 and you can move up without giving up the world considering the different assets we have...but 8-10 are awful. It would take a lot to get up to the top 5, let alone top 3...and from 6-17 or so, there's really not much difference and if we try to trade down, I have a feeling most teams may not even be interested. I think Favors size, athleticism, upside, age is so impressive, we need to try to move up to get him.
 
His stats are a bit concerning...just 42% from the floor and 35% from a college three...he is very young though (just turned 20) and shot 90% from the line and got there 4.6 times per game which is pretty solid...he did shoot 44% from three as a frosh though...3.2 turnovers per game seem fairly high...man, he looks like he could fill out into a hell of a specimen though. Honestly, I like him a lot.
 
Would be a solid pick those are good numbers for a freshman. My feelings are he would blow up to a 20+ PPG scorer if he stayed another year and be a top 5 pick. His 90 FT% and workouts indicate he will be a good shooter even though his numbers are a little off. High assists indicate he is willing to defer and would work well in the Jazz system (no Morris Almond 2.0)
 
Watching the vids on him, he looks VERY impressive. Needs better shooting %, but with him being that young it is obvious he really has potential. ARGH!! I hate that word..lol....The 9th spot is such a crap shoot.
 
I'm amazed at the first round love for three WAC players whose teams didn't win a weak college conference. George's Fresno State team finished sub .500 in league and overall. NBA front office types are smarter than me in affairs du hoop but I'm wondering if these three will be career DLeaguers.
 
Paul George has been compared a bit to a Danny Granger-type player. Good shooter, obviously, and potentially a dynamic scorer. He's got more tools than the Jazz have at the wing right now. He's probably got a bit more upside than Babbit, although I'd like to see those two go head to head.

Well every scout and front off type have nothing but great things to say about him as well, so you might want to ease up on your judgements of freshman players with lame supporting casts.
 
Head to head in one game Babbitt had 27 and George 26 in a Nevada win and in another Babbitt had 29 and George had a DNP in a Fresno win.
 
I'll repeat my comments about George that I made in another thread. I'm quite familiar with him because I am a Fresno St. supporter.

"The comparisons that have been made by some are him to Granger and Ariza. I don't think he'll never be the all-around scorer Granger is, so Ariza is probably a more accurate comparison (although Ariza is better defensively, but George has potential there). At Fresno I think he was held back a bit by his team. They were rather hideous offensively sometimes, which I think got him into some bad habits, such as settling for jump shots, and not being aggressive. Although he's a pretty good shooter, he became a much better scorer when he attacked, but he didn't do it near enough especially considering he shot around 90% on FT's this past season. But when he did, he showed some real flashes because he has the ability and athleticism to do it. If he works on that and his overall intensity (particularly defensively), there's no question that there's potential there, he's got a great skill level. Would I take him at 9? I guess it would depend on who's available but I would probably lean towards no. I think he's too raw at this point to be a top 10 pick. He's going to take some time to develop and establish himself on the NBA level. He probably fits in the 15-20 range. If the Jazz trade back, he's someone to consider."

Thanks for the input. That's what she said.

But, relatively speaking, do you feel he's more gifted and skilled and has more upside at his position than Monroe, Aldrich or Udoh are? I'd say yes just from watching some highlights. His length at the 3 would be nice.
 
I'm starting to wonder if the best outcome for the Jazz a year from now is to get a dynamic wing player in this draft--someone who can really shoot, handle and create, and expect to bring in Tomic a year from now. Of course, who knows what will happen with the lock-out, but I think the Jazz need both a big and a dominant wing to team with Williams.

I'd kill to know how the FO really feels about players behind closed doors, and to hear some of the news we never do. I wonder where they stand on Tomic.
I'd guess they are a little unsure if he'll even play over here, and if he'll be able to play on this level. They have to be intrigued as some of us are though.
If they are leaning towards counting on him being over here in a year that could play a role in who they draft. If it's too ify of a situtation they should
just go grab the best big man available @9 unless one of the wings blows us away.
