I'm not sure where I heard it, I think from some no name comedian, but I thought it was a funny and accurate way to look at it.

If someone was going to shoot you and you had two choices; wear a bullet proof vest or take the bullets out of the gun, which would you chose?

He was talking about female birth control vs male vasectomy.

About a week ago I took the bullets out of the gun. I think it was a great decision. Everything about it went smoothly and I only had to pay two $30 co-pays for my consultation and the operation. I pulled into my parking space at the outpatient center at the IHC hospital and pulled back out of the parking lot in less than an hour after my operation. During the operation I talked to the Doc about fishing and my job while he very capably performed the procedure.

I had virtually no bleeding from an hour after the operation through today. I never had the "kicked in the nads" feeling a lot of people talked about. There was no real pain, only some elevated sensitivity for a few days. I've tested out the equipment post-op and I'm more than satisfied with the results.

I'd like to take this opportunity to give a strong endorsement and recommendation for my doctor,

My main point in posting this is to encourage more men to take the personal responsibility for preventing unwanted pregnancy.

Hormonal birth control a has many side effects; weight gain, stroke, heart attack and worst of all--decreased libido. Many women have no idea that the reason they don't want to have sex is their BC. Men are even less aware. I think it has led to more than a few divorces where both people walk away wondering WTF went wrong.

Totally plan on doing this when we decide we're done. Now if I could just convince my wife that we're done.

Just remember, they say it takes six weeks to be sure you're sterile.

why not cut of your gun and chamber than

a gun without bullets is just a brick as you say in electronics
like a computer without an operating system
like a car without wheels.

i feel sorry for you

I despise birth control -- only because it makes my wife a complete psycho. I will be getting my balls chopped off as soon as humanly possible. (that is, if I survive this pregnancy still married)

Like a Dutchman without a brain. Wait...

I think my doctor is pretty conservative when it comes to declaring the operation a success. I have to bring in my first sample six weeks after the operation, then I bring in the next sample six weeks after the first sample. He won't give the thumbs up until two samples in a row are completely free of any, uh, bullets. I've read up on it and it takes between 15-25 (I'm struggling a little because I'm not sure if the mods are cool with technical medical terms that pertain to the reproductive system) "times" to clear out any residual bullets. Also, doctors vary in what they consider to be a clean sample. Some require no live rounds, others, like my doctor, require that no rounds live or dud be present. I like that he plays it safe, but I'd like to get to the payoff a little sooner than 3 months from now.

I plan to be safe until the first test. If it has been 20+ (and I think I'll be good in that department, off to a good start) times and it is clear I'll consider it good. I'll still provide the follow up sample, but I'll figure I'm okay.

Once you are cleared, vasectomy is the ONLY method of preventing pregnancy that is considered 100% effective.

Because I happen to still enjoy the rest of the gun. It works great and I never wanted to injure any innocent bystanders in the first place. Now I can pull the trigger as many times as I want without the slightest hesitation.

I think you're overestimating the role sperm play in what most of us are after when we have sex.

I want to get one ASAP - I'm only 22. I hate kids and will never have any.

The world thanks you.

After our 3rd child my wife had her tubes tied. I mean right after, with 30 minutes. Her inards were already strectched to hell and the doctor simply made a small incision directly accross her belly button, went in and tied her up good. You can't even see the scar.

Regrading sex life after birth control, it's awesome! Once my wife was off the hormones and knew that she could no longer get pregnant, sex has been an option nearly every day. I'd highly recommend it!!

I think the time line he gave you is pretty standard it was the same for me, they want to make sure the chamber is clear of all rounds. I was also told should go back every so often once every year or couple of years to make sure the lines didn't grow together.....or "firing pin" to keep with your analogy. But I never have after I was given the all clear, I felt a bit funny walking around carrying bullets.

i just dont see the point in a gun without bullets. the purpose of a gun is to shoot bullets right?

You're married. You don't have sex.

If we're talking about *****'s I always wear a condom. It's the most inexpensive way to keep your options open.

because sometimes you shoot to kill and other times it's just target practice.

I've heard that from so many of my buddies. Well, not the balls getting chopped off part.
