What's new

Chad Ford Chat - Utah Jazz

Where does this false view of the Jazz come from? The Jazz have only been swept in the first round twice in their entire history. Once in 1988-89 to the Tankers and last year to the Spurs. The Jazz have shown that they are historically better than a first round sweep normally.

Will this team win it all? No but I have more faith in my team than a 1st round sweep all the time. A tough 2nd round out is their norm.

We got swept by the Lakers. We got bumped by the Lakers first in 6 games, then in five games, then swept. We kept the same team together each time.

A few of the pieces changed from last year, but the focal points (Al/Sap) are the same. Plus no chnage in direction as far as the youth movement is concerned. No way we can hang with the Spurs/Thunder (probable first round opponents this year) for 4 games, let alone 7.

I'd rather have Jefferson, Favors, Kanter than Millsap. I hate being undersized and Millsap is really a good bench option not a good first option. Jefferson has potential to win more games than with Sap.

I think the Jazz are overvaluing Millsap.

For those advocating keeping Jefferson, that will ensure that you will never see a starting tandem of Favors and Kanter so long as Jefferson wears a Jazz jersey and is healthy.

If you could get Al for 10, 9, 8, 7 million per year (4 years 35 million), it would be a dream scenario. You take that knowing you have a great offensive player that can transition to the bench as he ages (because of his contract). The problem is getting Al to agree to that. It will probably come down to if Al wants the cash or if you can convince him that by doing this you will try to really build something great here...the problem is most time players do this, their teams screw them over.

You assume Corbin will always be Utah's coach.

I guess we could throw in a no trade clause.

Frank Layden comes out of retirement?

Phil Jackson gets (selective) amnesia.
Forgets he retired. Forgets he would never coach in Utah with no star players.
Remembers how to coach basketball (somehow).
signs 3 yr deal.
Frees Burks and discovers the next "Kobe".
Turns Hayward into Pippen.
Back to Back NBA Champs 2014/2015.

Or maybe not.

I've always hated Jackson. His smugness. His complaining about officiating. I would welcome him here with open arms. I think he could legitimately put us in a position to be contenders in a couple years.

How much would Jazz have to pay him?
10 million a year multi year?
His contract would be outrageous.

I'd pay him what we're paying Jefferson and throw in Roger's salary. Most woul say no, but I think it'd pay for itself.

Boston, Detroit, Charlotte, Dallas. It's a longer list than you think. The operative word is "big". I don't see Paul taking the highest offer next summer. I see him taking the offer that gives him the path (not the assurance) of starting.

Detroit has Monroe and Drummond. They're not signing Millsap.

Just to play Devil's advocate, do you really think that keeping Millsap will open up the door for the two youngsters? IMO, it's even less likely. Everything seems to indicate Millsap has a bigger ego and would be more butthurt at coming off the bench, which is odd since he's the one who has experience doing such.
