Does anyone think may be Hayward has the potential to become our new Pistol Pete Maravich?

- both has the vision in terms of passing and making plays
- both has similar shooting form
- Hayward is slightly taller at 6'8 compared to Pete's 6'5
- Hayward is slightly heavier at 207lbs compared to Pete's 200lbs
- both are skilled with the ball (Hayward played PG when he was younger and only 5'4)
- lastly... Hayward will now be wearing the same vintage Jazz uniform!

May be? May be not? What am I missing?

Hey HotNick,

I agree that Hayward is the next Pistol Pete. Both of them could put the ball on the floor and make some baskets. I think all we should expect from Hayward is to grab some boards and put his hardhat on. But he'll also probably develop skills like Pistol Pete's along the way. Sometimes a stick becomes unmeasurable by normal means. So this is what I see the lineup being:

Williams / Price
Bell / Miles
Hayward / Kirilenko
Millsap / Fesenko
Jefferson / Okur

Hayward will barely play next year. 10-15 minutes per game.

yall comparing a bench player to one of the greatest of all times. Some around here need to get a life or start watching basketball instead of talking about it. Nba so much faster then college. I dont even see him as a starter well atleast not a championship caliber team

He's going to be better than Pistol.

I predict he's basically a mix of Stockton, Dirk, Pistol, Larry, and Kyle Korver.

I don't think you are giving Hayward enough credit for how good he really is.

Agree. As a rookie on a veteran team, I expect Hayward to average about that many minutes, especially if the plan is to pick up a guy to play behind Millsap (and that would mean AK plays full-time at SF). How much Okur is able to play also changes the dynamics. Then Jefferson has to play 38 mins at the 5 and AK might enter the mix at PF - again subject to the plans to get a backup 4/5. Bell is also a bot of an unknown. Can he go 30 mins/per? Or do the Jazz try to limit his minutes a bit to keep his legs fresh?

Here's how I see the minutes being distributed:

PG - Williams (38), Price/Gaines (10)
SG - Bell (28), Miles (20)
SF - AK (30), Miles (8), Hayward (10)
PF - Millsap (30), Jefferson (18)
C - Jefferson (20), Okur (20), Fes (8)

These are just averages, assuming everyone is healthy. But there will be assorted injuries along the way; we know very few players actually play all 82 games. And in blowouts, we could expect to see more of Hayward and some minutes by Evans and Jeffers (or whoever the 13th man will be). I'm pretty sure Bell will be a starter due to his defense. Sloan will want to shut down the starting SG. But who knows if AK or Miles starts at SF?

You forgot Magic.
If Big Al were to get hurt in the finals, I have no doubt Flash would go in as the starting 5 and absolutely dominate the Heat. Gordon is gonna completely shut down that phony Lebron. Bell will negate Wade and Jefferson is going to school Bosh. Jazz will be the 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS. SHOCK LAKE CITY...you heard it here first!!!

Now that we have the second coming of Larry Bird (Hayward) and Kevin Durant (Evans) I don't see how anyone can beat us!

I predict 82-0.

You're right.

I'm also confident that he'll work hard on the weights to become a mix of Karl Malone and Shaq.

Jazz are going to dominate next year. I'll be surprised if another team even scores on them.

Seriously, guys why are we even bringing this up? If Gordan plays much this year, realistically I see him being a Mike Miller/Wallyworld type player.

It's sad how we're constantly comparing current players to legends. Boozer to Malone... Deron to Stockton... Korver/Gordan (who hasn't even played 1 single jazz game) to Hornacek or Pistol.

Let Al be Al. Millsap be Millsap. Deron be Deron. And Gordan be Gordan.

The Stockton - Williams comparison is legitimate to some extent. Williams is becoming the most dominant PG of this generation, while Stockton was one of the top 5 of all time. Comparing the untested soon-to-be-rookies to some of the best to ever play the game... Absurd.

I heard Hayward talking to someone in line at the store today and he said he could easily take all the the jazz on in a scrimmage game by himself.

I just sent your post to the Guinness Book of World Records. They have confirmed that you set a record for times misspelling the name "Gordan" in a single internet forum post.

LOL; the only "Gordan" I know of is Gordan Giricek.
In terms of his attitude towards basketball, basketball IQ, and skillset, his game is probably closer to Larry Bird's game WHEN HE FIRST CAME IN THE NBA. Hayward plays a smart, team-oriented game, will hit the boards, can shoot although I don't think he has Bird's range, can penetrate and draw fouls. Just like Bird, he pays attention to all the little things in basketball. Bird was not a great one-on-one defender, but kept his head in the game and helped when on defense, which I think is exactly how Hayward will approach playing defense.
I don't see him as being like Maravich...

IAWTP. Fortunately, Hayward has Bird beat in the "looks" department, so count on Flash merchandise to be popular with the ladies.
