What's new

Game #39 Jazz at Pistons 5:30 Mtn.

Bringing Jefferson back in was kind of eh, but Jefferson was +15 in the second half up to that point, so, again, not that egregious.

So is that how an NBA coach, who makes millions of dollars and is responsible for running an entire basketball team, makes decisions. "Oh, Al did well, so now he will do the same thing." No need to examine who else is on the floor or what the other team is trying to do. Thinking of strategy and match-ups is for the birds. This is exactly how Corbin thinks, that is, "Al was good then; he will be good now". No attention to detail by the coach leads to no attention to detail by the player. That is why Pops is a fantastic coach because he and thus his players have attention to detail, or their *** is on the bench.

All right, Jefferson is a better free throw shooter than Favors and they looked like they have started fouling to try to stay in the game. A stretch, maybe, but basketball decisions are never so clean cut. At least rarely so clean cut.

I didn't catch the game. Why did Enes play only 7 minutes? 4 points and 3 boards seems like he could get some 2nd half minutes.

I'm just wondering why you are so keen to defend Corbin. At the time he made these substitutions, I and many others thought they sucked. And when it played out, they did. What is there to argue, that they might have been good in another dimension? They seemed bad and somewhat a cop out; this is exactly what they were. Are you arguing that Corbin's logic was sound? If you are, then there are many who would argue they weren't. Let's then say that you can't defend one stance or the other since arguments might be strong for either side, ok. The only thing left is what happened, and Corbin's team (yes, it's his team) nearly lost the game because of matchups and bad help defense at the rim right after Corbin made two key substitutions. Am I missing something?

Vets got us back into the game in the 3rd from a relatively large deficit. Apparently Corbin didn't trust him enough in the 4th, or Kanter's ankle is still bugging him. Locke says it is. He did ok, but he is too slow on his offensive game and got 2 TO's.

Exactly..... some people just like to argue i guess. Tonight was a case where it was obvious that corbins decisions at the end of the game were not effective, yet darkwing just seems to want to argue even though im sure he saw how bad the jazz played after the substitutions.

I think the subs were justifiable. Watson is the better ballhandler than burks or foye under pressure. Al is definitely the better free throw shooter but we could have gone big three with Watson and Burks or Foye.

I'm trying to think of a time where I was impressed with Earl's ball handling ability against pressure and I can't think of one instance. I don't buy that he was brought in to break the press. He was brought in because Burks made a mistake and Ty put someone else in who just had more experience in end of game situations.

Being upset at losing your job due to injury. Do you hate Alex Smith, too?

Looks like it was the right move.

Have a look at Kaepernicks line and the score.

Too bad we have a woman as our head coach, instead of a Harbaugh, on the Jazz that cowers to vets and their whining.

If I am Kanter I would be seriously frustrated with the way my minutes are managed. Let alone the fact that usually my first kick out option on double team is Earl Watson.

I went back and watched the fourth quarter of the game to see what Corbin might have been thinking. Here is what happened.

-During the time with Burks and Favors, the Jazz go from more or less tied to an 11 point lead.
-Burks with a big three and dunk among other things like a big foul on Drummond at the rim. Works his *** off on defense against Bynum and is relatively effective.
-Favors deflecting balls left and right. Challenges Bynum at the rim and gets a clean block, but is called for the foul.

2:03 left (88-77): Burks somehow gets knocked down and Bynum gets the steal for two (88-79)

2:00: Burks and Favors go out; Watson and Al come in; Jazz run 24 seconds off as Watson misses a long jumper

133-128: Bynum drives right past Earl as Al watches on (88-81) (#1)

126: Hayward is fouled by Maxiell; makes 1 (89-81)

126-118: Bynum goes right past Earl down the lane and scores two; ineffective help (89-83) (#2)

118-47: Hayward dribbles the ball up with minimal pressure, and then passes to Al who ball-fakes needlessly and gets blocked. He misses and we get the rebound. Foye O-foul (89-83)

47-38: Same exact play. Bynum goes right past Earl with no help: layup (89-85) (#3)

38-27: Earl dribbles two times and stops his dribble in the backcourt. Passes to Hayward out of desperation, who now has to rush to try and get it over the half court line. In his haste he has the ball stolen by Bynum, Knight scores (89-87)

TIMEOUT

27-4: Gordon gets the ball and holds it until the last second and astutely finds Paul, who is fouled (90-87)

4: Knight misses a three

CONCLUSION
Earl didn't really dribble the ball up; Hayward did. Earl added nothing defensively or offensively. Al played bad interior/help D and contributed nothing offensively or defensively. Corbin panicked after one play with Burks and was obviously checking his email during the final two minutes of the game.

I had the chance to see the game at the Palace this evening - made the trip to Auburn Hills with some friends/Pistons fans, about an hour or so away from Ann Arbor. Man, I wish that arena was in Detroit - it just seems so odd to be in a wealthy suburb (35 mins away) given the demographic of Detroit. Really a missed opportunity to help turn that city around.

First off, I do have to say the experience at the Palace made me appreciate ESA. Once you got out of the hall and into the arena, the Palace kind of felt like a convention center that was showcasing basketball- rather than a basketball arena. Lots of empty space behind the baskets, with seating that doesn't come all of the way up to the court, not a lot of fans there so it felt big and empty, and not a lot of permanent Pistons logos, banners, colors, etc inside the arena - it just felt a little cold in comparison to ESA. They also kind of screwed up the seats by making them all blue/red fabric which sounds like a great idea given the Pistons colors, but it ends up making the entire stadium seating purple. They should have stuck with just red.

One positive was the sound system that made the player intros a lot of fun - the seats were shaking from the bass. Food was good - got chicken and waffles. The best part outside of the actual basketball game was the usher during a timeout - hilarious. I don't have a smartphone, so here's a clip from a past game....

It was also fun listening to Pistons fans around me talk about the Jazz. "Their starting point guard is Jamal Tinsley?.....remember that guy from the Pacers?". "No way, get out of here." "No really, he's their starter". "Noooo."......."Wait, their backup is Earl Watson???." "Wow, the Jazz kind of suck now". And we did suck for most of that first half, and yes, Earl looks just as bad in person as he does on tv. (That last play in the 4th when he began to bring the ball up and just stopped and panicked and threw it to Gordon. You could tell he didn't want to shoot free throws.)

I thought I was in for a long night, but the Jazz showed a little more life in the 2nd half and Burks and Foye made the game competitive and fun to watch. Loving that combo while Mo is out. Good times all around and glad I made the trek to Auburn Hills. Go Jazz!

edit: wrote this tired so sorry for any errors, nonsense, or uninteresting tidbits.

Any notes about Ty's coaching or did you get to hear anything from the timeouts or were you too far to hear?

No, nothing beyond what you guys saw. I was in the cheap seats, center court, upper tier.

That's ridiculous. Now why would Ty ask where Matt gets his haircut?
Ty is bald and Matt has dreamy hair. This clipboard makes no sense.
