Big Fat Al and Millsap will play out this season in Utah. Jazz will then let them move on. Next year we sign many one year deals aka Dallas this year for a stop gap until summer 2014. This gives Dennis and KOC a blank canvas with tons of cap space to make a run at a legit MAX player. Not that they'll land one. But they sure as hell will try. I heard somewhere as of now only a couple of teams will have the type of cap space Utah could if we don't screw it up this year.

Personally I want Jeffy gone now. But if this is the plan and we swing for the fences in 2014 I'd be stoked. Even if we strike out, at least we showed were looking for a championship and not to be a better than average team year in and year out. Our core four with another year under their belts plus a true MAX player could be scary good.

ANY WHO!!!!!!!!!! I'M BORED CAN YOU TELL?

What big time free agents will we be going after in 2014? Anyone I'd be interested in will probably either a.) get an extension, or b.) not exercise their ETO. At least in 2013 (when we will have tons of cap space) there are unrestricted free agents like Chris Paul and Dwight Howard we could make an offer to. They're incredible long shots (understatement), but that appears to be more than you can say about the 2014 free agent class. If we're going to swing for the fences, why not just do it now?

Since you're bored and I'm tired then can you please compile a list of players that at max or near max type that the Jazz should pursue? TIA

Well, I'm a little slow obviously.

Nobody worth a hoot is going to sign with the Jazz. The reasons are so numerous and obvious that we need not mention them at this time. The Jazz can only win through the draft and signing role players that can mesh together. Chances of a championship coming to Utah? Zero! Heck, 9 out of 10 people that live in Utah....would rather live somewhere else!

I'm all for getting it done now as well! Just hope they do at some point! Tired of the Jazz being average to just above average.

Not if we are the only team or one of a couple who can offer more money than any other. With the luxury tax penalties set do increase dramatically I could see a few MAX guys having to leave big market teams for small just to get paid. Unless they want to sacrifice dollars to stay.

Hell I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. I'm going off two hours sleep and pretty much delusional at this point.

I would love a season where the Jazz's floor is 25 wins and ceiling is the 8th seed with Favors and Hayward starting and Kanter and Burks each getting 25+ mins a night. I'd trade that for this in a heartbeat.

...like a trailer park...IN GEORGIA!!!

Lebron James uses his player option in the summer of 2014 and we throw the max at him. We'll win not 1, not 2...

I get the idea that cap space is good. It's not imperfect, but it's good. I get that. What I don't get is wasting another half a season with Al blockading any meaningful growth from what this franchise is invested in from a talent standpoint. There are other players that expire this year, and we watched one come off the table for a mediocre package at a position the Jazz desperately need something at (now AND in the future).

This. I'd be fine with letting Al walk, try to resign Millsap for $9-10 million (giving you a frontcourt rotation of Millsap/Favors/Kanter), try to get a young PG with your 2 first-round picks, and then use the remaining cap-space to acquire future assets and role-players (such as Carroll and Foye).

The issue is in the meantime the Jazz should have been gradually transitioning from using Al in a leading-role and allowing Favors and Kanter to play the minutes they deserve. It could still work out in the longterm, but Utah's really marginalizing their potential by treading water with their vet-heavy lineups.

Every word, comma, and period. This.

I know plenty of black people who'd love to live in SLC Utah.
