What's new

Following potential 2013 draftees

There's no clear-cut #1 pick this year, but if you're in the market for a PG, Smart has to be your guy. I was sold on him before today, but that sealed the deal. Talk about a floor general and a winner. The guy does absolutely everything you could ask for.

If I'm the Jazz, I'm looking to package our picks with something else for a top 10 pick in 2014. If there are no takers for that, then I'd try to package our picks for Smart.

Ryan Harrow fouled out today with 0pts, 0rbs, 0asts, 0stls.. I feel bad that the other players have no lead guard.

Maybe the best thing to do is to play out this year, get a decent draft pick, let the FAs walk, start the full-on youth movement and have our own Top-12 draft pick next year.

Like PKM said, draft whichever PG we can--Kabongo, BJ Young, etc., get another rotation player, and think of next year as the draft to get one more elite piece.

Then we'd have (Kagongo), Burks, Hayward (maybe Otto Porter), Favors, Kanter. That would give us a good player at every position, and we could add either a PG or a wing in the '14 draft depending on who's BPA.

Most rational and likely post of this century.

Wow. I had really high hopes for Harrow this season, too. Kentucky is broken.

I think it's likely we stand pat or move up to the 8-12 range for a PG we fall in love with (I'm partial to CJ McCollum). I'm hoping we draft McCollum, re-sign Sap, Foye, and Mo, and let Jefferson walk.

I would really like our squad:

PG - Mo Williams/CJ McCollum
SG - Burks/Hayward/Foye
SF - Hayward/Marvin Williams
PF - Millsap/Favors/Marvin Williams
C - Favors/Kanter/(4th Big)

Just let the young guys grow. Give CJ two years to show he's our franchise point guard.

I don't dislike this, but I don't think we let all the FA's walk. It's not the organization's way to be noncompetitive for a season. The only player I firmly don't want to re-sign is Jefferson. I would favor re-signing some combination of Millsap, Mo Williams, and Foye. Even with Millsap back, you can find 32-36 mpg for Favors and 28-32 for Kanter. And it's a lot to ask to turn over the PG reins to a rookie PG not named Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Kyrie Irving, etc. I'd prefer our PG draft pick (assuming we pick one) to play behind a solid veteran for a year or two.

I agree, I don't care if everyone comes back on a small term contract except Jefferson.

I still believe this team would be better without him. Addition by subtraction.

I was confident Curry could be a good PG because on top of his shooting, he has a decent handle, and he is reasonable quick and agile. Can't say the same about Jimmer. Not sure about CJ though.

WTF? What have I been saying this whole season?

It's what we've all been saying. The FO won't go for it, though; no way they aim for the lottery under any circumstances. The best thing that could happen is that Sap and Al BOTH walk, despite their efforts to retain one of them. This would allow Favors and Kanter to both start, and possibly put us in the lottery of a loaded draft. If we don't make the lottery, then cool, cause it will be our young core that got us there, not the vet carnival.

In my eyes, CJ is likewise quick/agile and his handle is top-flight. I don't think the "PG/SG" label he gets is appropriate. The fact that he puts up 25 ppg and shoots the 3 at a 52% clip doesn't make him a 2-guard. He's a lead ballhandler and should not be playing off the ball. One could look at his assist #'s and question his playmaking ability. But when sets are called to free you up for a jump shot, it's not fair to do that.

Just watched some of DX's McCollum scouting video. 49% on jumpers off the dribble? Better than 50% coming off screens? Yikes.

I think the reason he gets called a combo is because he doesn't pass the ball, not because he scores a lot..

You mean why are we talking about Burke?
Um..... No.
He'll probably go 9/10 in a STACKED draft.. That's why I said if we could trade our GSW plus Paul or Al for a top 10 next year..
I doubt we can get a top ten pick in next years loaded draft by trading al, or Millsap, and a pick likely to be low to mid 20's. We'd have to also throw in Favorsor Kanter or Hayward
Why am I not getting answers to my legitimate questions? Sorry if I offended anyone.
sorry. My Turd is bigger then yours.

under that plan I would think that team is better then this years vet heavy team

so you'd keep Marvin over Carroll?
