What's new

LOL at delusional BYU fans

I think the Riley experiment has gone on far enough. He just doesn't have a DIV 1 arm. He's not a QB.

Besides, it's not as if this season was going to be great. No one in Utah felt like BYU was going to be that great this year. Not after losing Hall, Pitta, and the back breaker was Unga. Might as well go through the growing pains now and play Heaps and then reap the benefits later. Instead, all BYU is going through is pain (without the future benefit).

I think BYU is playing the political game to an extent as well. Riley has a stud brother playing for Logan High right now. Plus, they don't want to discourage other players from transferring after their missions. They may also be waiting until after FSU before they put Heaps in full time.

But IMO, they should have been working Riley out for a long time at other positions. Maybe even since spring time they should have been trying him out at safety or RB or something. Since Heaps signed he was labeled to be "The Chosen One." Might as well play him.

Hey guyz. Cant sleep. Anybody wanna talk some WCC football? Portland is looking strong this year. Anybody awake?

Many solid points. With the loss of personel this team suffered, anybody who figured BYU was good for 10+ wins this season is simply a blind homer.

But even with that being said, the way they've handled the QB situation borders on retardation. In the preseason, Bronco is quoted as saying he had final say over who the starting QB would be. After the Air Force loss, he's been quoted as saying he's left that in his assitant coaches hands.

Despite my hate for all things BYU, I've always felt that Bronco was a pretty decent coach with a good hold on his program. Now I'm not so sure. They played the two quotes several times on the radio yesterday and it just really came across as a head coach throwing his assistants under the bus.

Why can't Bronco just sack up and name Heaps the starter? What is so hard/scary about that? If I was a BYU fan, I'd be livid right now.

Sorry I wasn't up. Slept soundly. Didn't know WCC even played football. You sure about that? Speaking of bball, Utah surely won't be slapped around by BYU again this year, right?

Right, we can't expect them to be like Utah now... Utah had 6 players drafted this year (and 2 others make training camp, practice squad, etc) and is already ranked 14 and expected to move up.

Last year Utah had 4 players drafted (and 6 others make training camp, practice squad, etc) and finished ranked 18 with 10 wins.

That's a lot of talent lost to the NFL. Losing that much talent to the NFL and still putting a very good (or even great) team on the field every year is the mark of a pretty major program.

I - hope - Bronco has already made that change known to his team and is just not showing his hand to Florida State by telling anything concrete to the media and letting them prepare for Nelson. I'm going to shut off the game if Riley Nelson takes the first snap.

Bronco is an OK coach but if BYU ever wants to be taken seriously on the national stage they need to get a new coach. Bronco is not the man. He is to BYU what McBride was to Utah. A decent coach to help bring the program back up from the basement but if you want keep moving up you need to find a Meyer.

I think that's the root of the problem with the team and the fan base, you guys can't find your Oscar Meyar's.

sorry for the bad joke couldn't resist.

Well BYU has to fork out the cash and pay a Meyer if they want one. They let Utah outbid them for Whitt, and that was before Utah started paying him BCS caliber money, so there is nothing to make me think BYU would pay for a top quality coach.

Andy Reid will be the BYU coach at some point. Bronco Mendenhall has said that he doesn't watch to coach forever and my guess is that his leaving will coincide with Reid's departure from the NFL.

Name one successful, long-time NFL Head Coach in recent memory (say the last 30 years) who later went on to coach at the collegiate level?

BYU needs a coach that buys into the BYU culture. It's debateable whether that is good or bad for the on-field product.

Pete Carroll. Of course he had to cheat to do it.

Oh miss read the question. Carroll was not all that successful at the NFL level. And neither was Pitt's coach.

I think he's trying to say that successful NFL coaches would never take a college job - which is false at least in this case. BYU has already talked to him about it way back in 2001 when he was going into his 2nd year and he basically told them that he wants to coach at BYU but after he has put in some head coaching NFL time and made some NFL money. The guy absolutely adores BYU. If you go on Youtube and watch the stories about Reid's family and such from the Philadelphia media he's always wearing his BYU polo in the interviews, just one example. It's certainly not something to get too excited about because it's probably at least 5 years away, but it's good to know that he's got their back.

Bronco is in a mess right now and I'd be absolutely shocked if he pulls it together this year. Nothing to me says this is going to be a good season right now. Jerry Sloan/NBA coaches can get away with playing Milt Palacio for half the year because the NBA has 82 games and still have a decent season. It doesn't work that way in a 12 game college football season. You adjust immediately or you have a crappy year. BYU will get absolutely worked on an Independent schedule if they don't play the best talent they have. It's just not the quarterback either, they are doing the same thing at multiple positions right now and it's going to cost them ballgames until they stop.

Yea I kind of got that after the fact. I highly doubt Reid will ever be the coach of BYU. I can't think of a single coach as successful in the NFL as Reid that has then gone down to college. And despite all the wishes of BYU fans it just does not seem as if he is anywhere near taking a step back like that until he just flat out retires. He may not stay at Philly coaches change all of the time but he would be hired by other NFL teams in a heartbeat.
