What's new

OFFICIAL: Trade Deadline Thread

Face it no one was willing to give up anything of value (to us) for a 2 month rental of Millsap. That's actually not hard to believe.

I'm not mad now but if Burks gets benched again then I will be. I'm just looking forward to the draft, it should be fun.

Welp, Trey Burke here come.

I'm convinced Clips wanted Burks along with Sap and Jazz declined. I'm ok with that but I wish we had moved Al for a bag of Doritos.

By not trading Millsap or/and Al, we will lose them for nothing in the offseason. Nice job done by the Jazz FO.

Looks like they are willing to overpay one or even both of them.

I'm a little disappointed, but I suspect the asking price was too high for Bledsoe. I would bet they were asking for Millsap, Burks, and a 1st rounder. I bet the Jazz were offering Millsap and a 1st rounder. There was probably a standstill at that point, with neither team budging. I can see why neither team would.

Other than that, I really saw no opportunity for a good trade. A good deal of y'all were just hoping Al got traded away for nothing, which was completely unrealistic given the narrative the FO has been consistent with all season long.

I still love this team, I think they are fun to watch, I think the majority of the board is whiney bitches I hope most of y'all quit watching and making annoying threads after every game.

Porter and Burke 2013.

I don't really mind if nothing was available, but it's hard to believe that zero positive return could have been had for either Al or Paul in the last TWO YEARS.

Buying something for basically free though? Good thing the Jazz preserved the value on these assets that they will probably never see any of.

Jeffersap isn't free...Expiring, expensive deal (especially Jefferson). No one can absorb that except Orlando, I think, and why would they want to?

@tribjazz: Really not a surprise Jazz stood pat. They were not going to bring back a multi-year contract, add anyone who takes away from core four.

Why is everyone so sure that Burke will even fall to us? Or even that he will be good? Who cares about cap space? What are we gonna do with it? This was a huge wasted opportunity, and I'm pissed.

Despite the fact that this means we'll bring back a long term contract on the current team and not get any asset along with it.

Bring on Smoove this offseason!

That team would be so much fun to watch. Bring in Tony Allen to complete the d. This is all possible, my friends.

or Raja, or CJ, or Howard, or Marvin, or Mo Williams, or Randy Foye, or Demarre Carroll, or Tinsley, or Watson

But they have flexibility.

That's another reason not to care anymore. The Utah media are just an extension of the team's PR department. It feels awesome to be rooting for a conglomerate displaying their product focus and risk aversion principles.

After all, that's what sports are all about!

Taking on contracts and sending nothing back is not free, it's paying. I'm talking expiring for expiring. Or even taking on a non-expiring with something you actually want in tow (since the Jazz will be spending $50-something million on the roster no matter what next year).

I really don't like the argument that we will be losing them for nothing. That's just not true. We are losing them for cap space, and with it the ability to make choices about who is brought in and at what price. If the price of trading them was to give up one or more of our young core, or to take back a contract that will limit us in the off-season, then kudo's for standing pat and not making a move just to make a move.

Cap Space is as valuable as most of the players we could have gotten in return. That's why teams are willing to trade for expiring contracts, and why it is better to keep them than make a bad trade.

Anyone notice that Tiago Splitter is also an unrestricted FA this summer? The Spurs basically offered us a downgrade from Al to Splitter, with SJax and Patty Mills thrown in. I know some of you would still take that deal, but to be fair, that's a weak offer.

Agree. It's likely the Clips wanted another asset like Burks. Millsap is a half-season rental; they would have wanted something to show for the deal if Paul signs elsewhere, which he will give the presence of that guy named Griffin.
