Houston in talks with Kyrylo Fesenko.

Trading Nicolas Batum for crap.

But point made. But **** the Blazers, I mean Rockets.

Not in this case. The Rockets aren't going to offer a ton of money for Fes. If Dampier was their #1 option, then anything they offer Fes would most likely be below that (assuming Dampier goes to Miami).

In this case, letting the market decide Fes' worth is working out in the Jazz' favor. No doubt after a few good games vs. Denver, his agent probably said he could get a 3-4 yr. deal at $3-$4M/per.

With the rights to match, there was no pressure on KOC to panic and give him a huge deal. No one was going to overpay like Portland did for Matthews. Especially not now, not when teams know Utah has the cajones to walk away from a bad contract. Portland went to the well one too many times and now they're stuck with an overpaid backup. Unless someone really, really wants Fes, they're not going to offer him a big deal with the intent of sticking it to us.

maybe his crew is in negotiations with the WB to televise his signing decision (I think we're all on pins and needles)... Or maybe Marlboros were 2 cartons for the price of one in the Ukraine and he wasn't gonna leave til he stocked up. or maybe he's holed up in a luv shak with a couple of supermodels and an illustrated version of the Karma sutra.

More than likely he doesn't care to sign cuz he already has the offer, so he can take some time and look around.

Let's see Dork Elvis offer Fes' the same, then the Jazz can use their remaining $$$ to sign Erica.

i wish the Rockets offer the same to Fes so that we can just match it. Fes taking the one-year tender is a risk if he gives solid performance throughout the season.

Um, signing Ariza … signing Artest … he's due for another.
Ariza was a good signing (and one where he could've gotten the same contract on half the teams in the NBA if he wanted), and Artest was a trade where they traded basically nothing for their #2 scorer. With T-Mac continually having problems, the trade actually worked out in their favor. Ariza was asked to do too much, and I think last year's experience will help him as a player.

Daryl Morey is one of the best GM's in the league. Easily.

Who traded for T-Mac?

Who traded for T-Mac?

Not sure it was Mr Morey that traded for T-mac, but Houston traded away Steve Francis(who went on to do NOTHING in the league post Houston) and Cutino Mobley(also outs on his career) and Kelvin Cato for T-mac(who could still score in buckets for a few years after the trade), Juwan Howard(STILL a Serviceable PF/C - Ask Portland), Tyronn Lue(better backup PG than Gaines) and Reece Gaines.

All I'm sayin, is the Rockets came out on top with that one.

Yeah, the most Houston can offer is the biannual exception or 2 million. I certainly think we will match anything 2 million or below. Also as long as Ming can play the 25 minutes a game and Miller is healthy he still might be lucky to see the floor. So unless he flops in preseason Fes should get more playing time here at least until Okur is ready.

Ariza was hardly a "bad" roster move. He played decently for the Rockets (poor shooting percentages due to being too high an option on an injury-depleted team) and ended up being flippable for low-salary Courtney Lee after one year. That's hardly a move that really handcuffed the franchise.

As for Batum: Morey's record on late draft picks is pretty good. At a certain point we're picking nits.

And he traded for Artest. Artest ended up getting them over the first round hump. For Artest he traded Donte Greene, a washed-up Bobby Jackson, and a 1st rounder. Basically in terms of assets with real value he traded a third-string PG and a first rounder for Ron Artest. I think every GM in the league (except for Indiana and Detroit) does that deal.

i wish the rockets offer the same to fes so that we can just get rid of him. Fes taking the one-year tender is a far more than he's worth even if he gives solid performance throughout the season, which i highly doubt will happen.
